Awesome buck there, love the tine length - those G3s must be like 12"!

Glad to hear somebody scored opening morning, congrats!

Thanks everyone, and thanks to Mike for posting the pic. We have been watching this deer since early last year and think he is 6.5 this year. We knew he was honed in on two stands and in gave my bro in law the better of the two this morning and that's where he showed. But it's ok by me; I got my jacket in '07 with a 163.

This is the 4th deer over 160" we have harvested in the last 3 years on a low fence property in a county not known for big deer. Hard work and patience with your herd sure will pay off!

I'm sure the man of the hour will get on here soon to collect his praise lol!

How big is the ranch? I would have been worried about the neighbors taking it first.

Well Done.

2200 acres. We have really good neighbors who are also committed to growing big deer so it's not that much of a worry. I guess we could have taken him last year when he was 160+ to be sure that didn't happen, but then he never would have made 170!

We sublease the pasture next to us to some friends and they killed a 170"+ deer this weekend, a massive 10 pt with kickers. I will post pics of it later when I get back to San Antonio.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

We just got on a place in Live oak one month ago (late), not far from you it seems. We havnt been seeing much besides hogs and turkey yet. You give me hope.

Coming from a large deep south Texas lease, to a smaller peice of land close to the house is quite a change, but the brush is so thick, its unbelievable, even compared to the valley.
