Just curious as I really like that caliber but my next purchase will be something suffeciant for Elk also. I see people talk about killing elk with the 270Win, but wanting to know if the mag makes a diffy. Looking for imput from people with experiance with this gun! If you dont, then please do chime in and start an argument. If you really have something to add and your not a fan of the 270WSM that cool, just do so in a friendly manner please.

I have not used my 270WSM on elk yet, I have seen elk taken cleanly with a 270win. I bought the Tika T3 hunter in 270WSM as an elk rifle but with my feet issues I have not used it on one. A friend of mine that is an outfitter in Montana said he has had several clients use the 270WSM and those that could shoot got their elk, like with anything placement is the key.

My primary elk rifle prior to this is a 7mmSTW which works great but cutting a couple lbs of weight doesn't hurt in the mountians.

+1 on tht Accubonds, my Tika with 140gr accubonds factory loads and a 3X9 Burris ahort mag scope has delivered 2.5 inch groups at 350 yards. Some friends have switched to Accubonds for elk in their 257 Weatherbys with great success.

No personal experience on Elk. However, I have owned a 270 wsm and would not hesitate for a second using it on Elk. Personally, I would step up to TBBC, or TSX bullet, just for the extra weight retention and penetration. up

I think it would be more than fine with either a 140gr accubond or a Barnes TSX.

How ever if you already own a mid caliber rifle 25-06, 270...ect I would bump up to the 300wsm

with it you could use 150gr for deer and 180gr for elk, I think the 300wsm is the more versital of the wsm rounds and would be my choice if I only had one rifle....and it had to be a short mag.

270wsm is plenty gun to hammer an elk with and very accurate if you work up the right loads for it. Saw several at the range yesterday that elk hunters rolled into town with... most of them were brownings, but had to strike up a convo with the young lady with the XCR.

My father has killed 4 elk with the .270 WSM to date. I load 140 grain Accubonds for him with an average velocity of 3,149 fps. All four elk were killed cleanly with a complete pass through on a broadside spike bull.

I see no reason why a 270wsm wouldn't flat out smoke an elk.

I flat out smoked my last elk with a regular .270 (Non Magnum)
It did a great job with a lot less recoil, muzzle blast, and noise.
Ammo is relatively inexpensive and available almost everywhere.

yeah alot of elk have fallen to .270's, be it winchesters, weatherby's and the WSM

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

as with any caliber, placement is the key. I have killed deer with a 22 and a 410 shotgun. When I was able to hit a beer can at 100 yards(specifically, hit the "B" in Budweiser, my dad gave me his remingtom 700 MM. Now with this gun, I have killed tons of deer, all with one shot, didn't matter if it was 50 yards or 500.
So whatever you chose of the two will work, if you can shoot it right!

avid deer hunter that is disable but God has still blessed me.
