There are no "laws" that require them to do anything specific. That is usually a training issue and is left to that agency to decide. U just have to remember that they are essentially police officers and more times than not they are approaching someone with a deadly weapon in their possession or within their reach. Just do as they say and you can ask all the questions you want, after they don't have to worry so much about getting killed...

Green uniform???? Not in Texas my friend, those are Tan lol.

But as an LEO there are not laws that say how they have to approach you, but there are standard practices to approaching a potential law violator. There is a 7 step approach that is used on most stops and is pretty much a standard base to start with, It is taught in basic law enforcement. Each officer adjusts it to fit his or her needs. Sometimes the element of suprise is the best tool, therefore announcing ones self as an officer too soon or from too far away could lead to bad things happeneing.

The best things to do to avoid the GWs is to always be leagal and you will never have anything to worry about. They will always be looking for the same things, vessle compliance, birds, ammo, shotgun.

The one I was always curious about was coming on private property. If you have a locked gate, can they jump over if they know you are hunting or do they need to wait at the gate unless they have reason to expect a law has been broken?

Treat them with respect and usually the same follows as long as you aren't poaching.

They can go where ever they want.

The ones that have checked me on Lake Fork fishing have had both green and tan but normally green.

In fact most of the times that I have encountered them they rarely actually intruduce themselves. In general all my experiences with them have been pleasant. O and don't think for one minute just because they pull up at the ramp or to your truck that they were not actually in the field watching you. eek2 In fact they are full of great local hunting information so it is a good idea to make sure you are legit and get on their good side so you can get that valuable info.

GW have the most jurisdiction in the state. They can do anything they want as long as they have "just cause". Meaning if they think something is going on they can go over any fence or gate or what ever needs to happen.

Most likely he was on a "fishing expidition" and had already watched that individual and used the speed violation as a way to initiate a stop and investigate the violator further...

Oh I'm fully aware of their power. No expedition just happened to be on 35 when someone was being an asshat.

Convo probably started something like this:
GW: License and registration...
Driver: Um, you're a game warden...

Got stopped last weekend while duck hunting. Checked hunting license, duck stamp, hunters safety card, made sure our ducks were separated, checked our plugs in our guns, made sure we had steel shot, then went on his way.

They need a reason. I have seen a GW ran off a ranch one time it was rofl. The GW told the land owner what are you doing the land owner said you are on my land who the H### do you think you are. He said I am the local GW. To make a long story short the GW was escorted off the property and told do not come back.

Im not a lawyer but im pretty sure they still need probable cause to enter your private property or your permission.

I know that they have no problem putting on camo and getting in the middle of the public mess.

Probable cause though is an easy thing to show on any paper work. Trust me I know and you can ask ant LEO that.
