Does anyone here have a Green Egg Cooker/Smoker? Would like to hear from someone who does before laying down that much cash for one.
Thanks

I don't, but have friends that love it. I've gone back and forth on getting one. They are very efficient but the surface area seems a little tight to me.

Those things are awesome. You can do everything on it, that a smoker can do and a regular charcoal pit. It holds temp. PERFECT once you get used to using it. I highly recommend them. I just finished building a sweet portable table/cook station with a medium green egg on one end.
They are heavy as all heck though.

Been using them since 1981. Absolutely the best way to cook anything. The ONLY drawback is price. You can cook things on it and it's so well insulated that you can put your hands on the outside of it while it's cooking because it's so well insulated. The insulation keeps your foods moist and juicy, no drying out.Very hard to overcook something.I won a ribbon at the State Fair doing a turkey on it ....

I do not know anyone who has one in southeast Texas. Everybody has one in Dallas! It's kind of like barbecue sauce and fruit wood!

I have the XL size BGE.. If I had it to do over, I would get the Large size and if I needed more cooking area, I'd buy 2 large's vs. the XL. They cook great, very versatile from smoking to grilling on the same grill. The accessories can get expensive, but you take on a few at a time and build up so it doesn't seem as painful. I added a device called a BBQ GURU ( which is an electronic fan that is controlled by a small computer - monitors/maintains the temp of both the grill and the meat ) The BBQ Guru helps when smoking for long hours. I typically do a 8-10 lb brisket for 21 hours on a "shoe box" size/amount of lump charcoal. The fact that it can cook that long on such a small amount of charcoal is amazing. And, BTW the food taste incredible. Another cool feature is that it's the only outdoor grill that I know of that can get up to over 600 degree's. If you want to cook a ribeye or a filet like the nice steak houses do, you need to get really high temps in order to "flash" cook it. I have 2 other grills too: Cast iron pipe style and a BBQ galore 4 burner gas grill and I cook 99% on the BGE. It's a great BBQ grill and you will not regret buying it. http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c277/jfdawson/Brisket%202010/JD

I just got one a couple of weeks ago... I was a little leary at first and with a few people I know that love them I went for it..It is amazing on one 10 lb. bag of lump charcoal I have cooked 6 meals for a total of about 30hrs of cooking. I still have enough for atleast 3-4 more cookings. One thing I was worried about was the amount of time to have to start a charcoal fire but you can light and be cookin on within 10 minutes. the food comes out very moist and tender. There was a decent deal on one on craigs list a couple of days ago.
Well.... uhhh
