Not unprovoked, but I've been between 40 or so pigs and their escape route. Wasn't fun.

While bird hunting Charlie was on the left by the creek, I was in the middle and Ronnie was on the right. My old Brit was working in front of Charlie when he came a running back past Charlie. I was thinking what is wrong with him when Charlie started screaming like a little girl HELP ME HELP ME I finally see the biggest black hog charging him. IT passed about 10 steps from Charlie while he was giving ground and still screaming. I was 30 yards away loaded with 8's. All I could do was watch. Anyway he stopped about 30 yards past Charlie looked at him then me then kept on running. Ronnie and I darn near died of laughter that day. That old dog finally showed back up about 20 minutes later.

One time I was in the brush at night looking for pigs because they'd been bedding down in that area. I was walking very quietly and reservedly using my flashlight because I could smell them. I swear I covered every inch of the area I was looking and never saw one, but the smell of hog was so strong I knew they were around. So I fired a round of my 9mm in the air.

It was like the ground came to life. Had to have been a couple dozen pigs running in every direction and one took out my legs. Felt like I got hit by a truck. It didn't stick around to mess with me, so I'm sure it was just bad luck, but it was eye-opening how hard that sucker hit me, and judging by the size of the pig I fell over, it was a small one.

"Has anyone PERSONALLY been attacked by an unprovoked wild hog?"

Once, many years ago, in a bar named "The Court of Three Sisters" in Tulsa, Oklahoma. And I can't say she was completely unprovoked, but all I did was smile at her girlfriend. Seemed kinda selfish of her, since I was the only guy in the place, and she coulda gone after any of the other patrons.

I was walking to my stand in the weee hours of the morning and heard hogs down at one of my feeders. As I got to the base of my stand I heard what sounded like a mac truck running through the brush. I quickly climbed to about the 5th step on the ladder to my stand and heard and felt a loud thud on the base of my stand. I looked down and saw a boar. I climbed into the stand with my legs hanging out the door and sat down and turned around to shoot but it was gone. Close enough for me.

Only ever been charged by one, and she had a 7mm bullet in her. She was the third of three that I shot in about 10seconds. As I approached her and angled for a better shot, she jumped up and charged at me. Only to die at the muzzle of my 7mm08.

Every other pig I've ever encountered, that didn't get shot, fled at the first opportunity.

Just once, i was behind the Scoreboard in Rockwall on Hwy 205. She was huge, had to be 300lbs and had two crazy tusk sticking out it's mouth, it charged at me then I ran inside and put it to rest with a Colt 45 and I think she had a bottle of whiskey. Scariest moment in my life bolt

I've walked within 10 yards of pigs and they always have ran when they noticed my presence. That being said, I always use caution when it comes to hogs.

Not a hog but a big rat (Javelina) My older brother got to sit in my blind that morning mad. So I begged my dad to let me walk and check the hog trap. After an hour of begging he said ok. I got to the end of the road and saw the trap filled with Javelina with two on the outside. I shot and killed them both. Then the others came out scaredand the chase was on. I was chased around half a mile by 20 or 30 of them I did not stop to count them. When I got in the blind I turned around rifleand I wished I had more ammunition. 19 rounds and needed more. I was 10 or 11. No angelI did not provoked them when they came out I hauled azz bolt. I provoked the two dead ones.

Took a young man out hunting for hogs one eveing and a big boar walked in we were sitting with our backs against a round bale. When he saw us he turned and came running clacking his jaw, he was shot by the boy with a 7mag. but he had 3 of my 41 mags rounds in him too. He crawled torwards us after he was shot to hell 16ft from us before he expired.I will never be casual about them since then.

I had a monster sow attack a medium size pig that I had just shot. I was about 12 yards from the sow in weeds over my head. When she turned and took a couple steps towards me and grunted I gave her a load of 12ga number 8s right between the eyes. I think she might have charged if I had given her a few more seconds to figure me out.

My close call came when I climbed off my tripod after bow hunting one night and met a sow with about 10 piglets. The piglets scattered and I slipped off to one side. The old sow saw me and shaddowed me at about 30 to 50 yards all the way back to my jeep (about 250 yards). She grunted and groaned all along the way but never charged.

I've always told myself and others to climb a sturdy tree, FAST!!!
I have not had a hog charge me, but while hunting hogs with my old roomate we were in the creek bottoms and heard a group of em coming at us quick... Our only option was to duck in the creek under the edge of the bank and hold our rifle and shotgun on our chests as we watched hogs jump the small creek just over the top of us. It was kinda an uneasy feeling and glad we acted propmtly, but would not want to get in a tangle with one. I have wrestled them down with dogs and came out on top, but without help I think it would be tough. But NO, never had one charge or stalk me or anyone I know of. Of course we have some very huge hogs in East Texas at my lease and would climb the first tree I could, lol.

Bluff charged by a sow a few times. I hunted on a place where the guy was running a hog day lease. He kept several russian looking sows that he wouldn't shoot and let have litters. They got to be only half wild. They wouldn't spook unless you were withing 50 yds of them. If you happened to get within 20 yds or so of them when they had pigs they would chase you off but stop short of really trying to catch you.

I had a big boar come within about 25 ft of me once. I was sitting on the ground next to a tree with 2 1/2 ft tall grass all around (think south tx brush country). There were several game trails around me. I saw some cattle off to my right about 60 yards so I really sort of avoided looking that way for a while knowing I probably couldn't take a shot anyway. Just before dark, I began to stand up and a big black object came lumbering down one of the game trails right towards me. It was a big boar, somewhere in the 300-325 range (I've shot several really large ones over the years so I can gauge the weights relatively close). It kept coming, I guess it didn't see or smell me. I raised my rifle in case I had to shoot, then it finally stopped, about 30 ft away. It began snapping it's jaws together, grunting and then pawed the ground. It made a couple of quick steps towards me twice. I really didn't want to shoot it. It finally took a hard left (to my right) and ran thru the grass, made a circle around me and ended up on the opposite side of me. I looked back there and saw a sow and 3 little ones running thru. I guess he somehow got off the path and I ended up between him and his group. That's about as close as I've come to getting "charged" or "attacked" other than ones we have trapped and they charged the pen fence, but those are usually no big deal.

Opening weekend of bow season this year, I was sitting in my ground blind during a evening hunt. After it was too dark to see my pins in my stand, I heard a hog coming from behind me. I listened to it until it got to my left side, but still could not see it. I figured I would sneak out of the blind and try to get a shot before all light was gone. Well, as I crawled out from my blind (you have to belly crawl to get out due to being heavily brushed) and looked up I saw the hog the same time he saw me. He was maybe 5ft from me. He must have been as surprised as I was cause he ran right by me missing me by inches. Never did get a shot off.

Never have been "attacked" without cause though.

In my neck of the woods, you don't walk around rattling a corn bag! You WILL get put up a tree! Happened to 3 different men, different occasions this year alone. We have 1000 acres in Trinity County near Piney Creek. I NEVER go into the woods there without packin my pistol. Each time they were boars, and they circled the base of the tree for the better part of an hour popping they're teeth at them.
