I've heard of the program but its not going to be effective until they pay an actual bounty to the hunter for killing hogs. For my part I already turn in my hogs...I turn them into food.

Yea and IF there is some truth to it, after they are turned in what happens to them. You know not all will be fresh enough to process, doubt they will make a designated dump for them. I just don't see something like that working to well.

its true.

the way i understand it, the county with the most hunters can then use that 25K to use as a bounty the next year.... its worth it for the hunters too.

Just Picked up the Fayette County Record from the mailbox and yes for the 2nd year in a row bounties and pay offs on hogs and Yotes! It says it's linked up with TPWL websites.

The Record is our county twice a week newspaper out of La Grange Tx. They pay for the most and biggest yotes and 2 ear bounties on the hogs. Starts nov.6 ,2010 and ends jan.2 ,2010 then jan.3 2011 thur april 30 2011. Bounties from first-$250, second-$150 and third-$100 on hogs. Yotes are most and biggest females. Payouts also. There are several spots around county to show and weigh.

I wish they would start a decent bounty with no limits. I would put my redneck hog corral back to work.

The bounty sucks, but there's no limits. The more brought in the better.

Okay, I am gonna post this and then turn my back while I take the whipping from y'all.

We fuss about the pigs, but, other than the large boars, they are just as good (in my humble opinion) table fare as any whitetail and have lot more meat than squirrels or rabbits.

They do tear up corn feeders (fence them).
They do root up hayfields, but if the hay fields werent full of grubs or tubers of other hog food - they wouldnt root.
I know they cause damage - so do deer, coyotes and my kids.

These animals have been around for 400 years. We are not going to get rid of them! We might as well learn to live with them, love them (lol) and especially eat them!

Killing a pig or two is like swatting a fly in the chicken house - it's not going to reduce the population one bit! There is simply to much food and prime habitat to eliminate them.

Why waste more government money on programs that don't and won't work?

There's plenty of folks that would take care of the problem for free.

I have a grand idea! Let's create an agency within the federal government, create it under the National Park Service for maximum effect, responsible for maintaining the quality of and increasing the feral hog population across the nation! Within a few short years, they will have spent billions and in the process completely exterminiated the swine. We could then dismantle the agency just like they did with the .... oh thats right, they have never done away with any government spending programs that dont work

personally, i respect the wild hog, and other than when they get outta hand population wise, they don't bother me. i kinda like having a few around, to eat snakes and to keep things intersting during hunting season.

do i wan't them overpopulaing the place and running off all the deer, no, but i don't want them completely eradicated either.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
