Ok guys what bullets are yall using in yalls 223 for deer. I am looking at at the partitions 60 gr, or the tsx 62 gr. Which one do yall think is better.

And before it gets started I dont care what everyone thinks about using a 223, your not going to make me change my mind. So lets please just leave this to the question asked.

My son killed his first hog with a 223 60 grain remington. Droped him in his tracks. Its all about shot placement.

I have killed many deer with my .222 and I use 50 grains. I am not sure if I would try to kill a buck with it. I like to drop them in their tracks. But for does and pigs I use it all the time. But I would think those 60 grains are good.

I killem dead in there tracks with a Hornady 55gr VMAX. I killed a sika buck with the same bullet at 230yards as well. My stand is about 150 yards from my feeder and for the last 3 years the good old 223 has dropped em at that distance everytime

oh yea i agree, i'm surgical with my 223. This is just gonna get carried on a hunt while my wife has the 243. I just feel like i'd be naked not carrying a gun and would not be afraid to use it just want a good load for it, if she lets me shoot.

I think you'd be fine going with either one of those. Both well constructed bullets.

I haven't used the Barnes but the 60gr partition has worked for me.

I killed 2 deer shooting Wolf 55gr SP from my AR. Now I shoot Monarch Brass 55gr SP in my Mini. Both shot/shoot well for me. I have a bunch of fancy Partitions, Ballistic Tips, etc but I haven't ever shot them; never saw the need to shoot the expensive stuff when this works so well.

This is a 5 shot string of Monarch Brass from my Mini at 100 yards from a rest. My point of aim was the right hand edge of the green at the top right corner of block #8.

I only have experience with the partitians and they work well.

Looks like you had one flyer at 6 o'clock!

Nice shooting!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I killed a lot of deer with 55 grain Remington PSP. With any of the bullets it is still going to be shot placement.

I have used 60gr nosler partition with good results. With the partition I shot a sow enter side of head broke her neck kept going and exited her shoulder through the plate. Took down a large bodied buck he made it about 40 yds. Also used 55gr Remington corelock hp, shot a doe at 50 yds she jumped and folded. I just ordered federal barnes triple shock 55gr giving them a try. Also hornady 55gr SP giving them a try this season.

I haven't shot a deer with it and I shoot a 22-250 instead, but the 52gr Hornady A-Max groups like a champ for me and does good enough on smaller game. I was told that the A-Max is designed to be super accurate and hold together just enough to take down something like a small deer, as opposed to it's sister the V-Max which is designed to fragment quickly. And at 52 gr, very friendly to almost any gun or twist.

Yeah thats a nice group, but what do they do on game? I know they probably kill, but I want a bullet that will kill and leave and exit wound and trackable blood trail. I have shot alot of the other bullets as well and never got pass thruse with any sort of regularity, switched to a partition, and have never had one fail to pass through, even when you hit the shoulder. If it doesnt knock them flat I want to be able to follow them, and need a blood trail to do it, and as you know they dont fall right over every time. When I shoot the 223 at deer I am a head/neck shooter, so it doesnt matter what I shoot, loaded the partitions for my sis-inlaw and did some field testing is is amazing what little guns will do, especialy with good shot placement and bullets.

Also reloading afords me to shoot them pretty cheaply.

This year I have a 22-243 that I will be using for hunting some of the time. In it I am trying 75gr swift Sirocco. Also going to try some 90gr bergers on hogs some time.

In the 223 remngton and the 22-250 60gr nosler partitions.

I have used hollow points and soft points befor and know they will work. I want to go with at least a 60 gr for the better BC. I have heard that the tsx, and the partitions were stout and wanted to give them a try. And for the twist I have a 1 in 9 so they both should do fine.

IMO the TSX bullets for small calibers are so far ahead of everything else for on game performance that the rest are nothing but a distant 2nd.

One thing I've found is that the TSX are some copper fouling sonofaguns though. If you shoot any volume, be ready for some frequent bore cleanings.

Here's 6 shots with Winchester Supreme 55g ballistic tip at 100yrds, 1st shot low right 7 ring; windage adjustment, 2nd/3rd shot low 9 ring; elevation adjustment, 4th/5th/6th top bullseye. Out of Bushmaster 20" barrel 1:9 twist. Have taken head shots out to 250yrds, results deer DRT! Have missed 'em a couple of times but it was me, not the gun or bullet. When I miss I always take it to the range and check it out and heck the miss is always my fault, like I didn't already know it! bang

I load 55 gr Sierra GK boat tails for mine and love them. I've prbably killed over 20 deer with this rifle and never had one go more then 75-100 yards with shot right through the ribs out to 250 yards. However, if I have a good rest and they are under 125 yards they usually get one right between the eyes or behind the ear and they don't take a step!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
