I was talking to this guy and we were discussing how, if you had land with cattle on it, sometimes you could take in a cow to have it butchered and trade half the cow for the cost of butchering the other half. His next question was, "You have places to hunt cows around here?"

Beware.. he may be coming to a cattle ranch near you!

lol

Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

Give him my name, I've got 3 trophy Brangus bulls. Old Otis will definitely go B&C. 5000.00 for a guided hunt.

Orn,

I’ve got one that will make you fall over laughing.
This is a true story from a very good friend of mine who guides in the Hill Country.

He was on this hunt back last fall. The owner approached him and told him he had a hunter that was going to need some "extra care". Come to find out the guy was from China and could not speak English. The guide took him all over the ranch trying to figure out what he wanted to shoot. All the hunter would do was put his hands up over his head out stretched. The guide put the hunter on a 140+ whitetail buck, but the hunter just shook his head NO. He put him on a 34" axis buck, at which the hunter again shook his head NO. This went on all morning long. Finally, the guide got tired of trying to figure out what the hunter wanted and headed back to camp. Just before they got back to headquarters, the Chinese hunter starts jumping up and down in the truck seat. He starts frantically jabbering in Chinese and points out the window of the pick-up at the ranch owner's Longhorn Bull. The guide barely caught the hunter before he pulled the trigger on the Bull.
The guide could barely keep from laughing until they made it back to camp to tell the ranch owner what this "hunter' wanted to shoot.

BTW, the ranch owner did allow the “hunter” to shoot the bull for.....................................$5000.

I guess this Chinese hunter dreamed about them Texas Longhorns long enough.... lol

Goes to show what a trophy is to me might not be one to somebody else, huh?

I forget the sum that this one guy paid to kill a tame buffalo down south of here, but it was a pile of dough. The rancher turned the bull loose just before the guy got there, took the guy to the bull's favorite spot and let him take his trophy.

Hard for me to imagine, but that's how it goes...

No need for the sneak or camo, just get in the back of the truck and I'll pull into the pasture and honk the horn.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Yep,

I am glad that I was not the one to have to field dress, cape and quarter that animal though.

Folks, I really hate to ruin your fun, but in the Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio papers nearly every Sunday there are ads for Trophy Long Horn Steers.

I sometimes don't know if everyone on here has led a real sheltered life or not, but there are people out there that would pay good money to shoot your favorite horse.

I heard a supposedly true story about a guy that was hunting on one of the Trophy ranches in west Texas, and wqhen he got thru shooting whatever it was he was after, he asked his guide how kuch would it be to shoot a jackrabbit. The guide told him $25.00. The next jackrabbit they saw, the "Hunter" hollered stop, shot the rabbit, and handed the guide the $25.00.

I have told this on here before, but we had a hunter a couple of years back that talked about going from Arkansas to Colorado, and paying like $1000.00 to shoot a cow Buffalo in a pen. He had never shot a Buffalo and wanted to, and that was the best deal he found.

I read the paper and never seen an ad for one in the Dallas Morning News.

My friend shot a cow. The rancher who was his uncle ordered him too. It was sick though. They let it lie. Don't know what it scored...

Yes, I guess people sell the horns for the walls in the paper but never seen an ad to go shoot one. I grew up with a set on my wall my dad won at a party back in the 80's. I went to Tech so I threw them in the trash. lol.

I know of 3 guys who drove to Kansas last summer to shoot some bull Elk out of a 10 acre pasture. They paid $650 each and they all came home with an elk. Not my cup of tea but it would make for some cheap Elk meat.

Hopefully I can ask you this question without making you or anyone else mad, but do you check out the livestock for sale classifieds, especially the cattle section on a regular basis?

They don't de-horn those animals to get the horns. The animal has to be killed, so it doesn't matter if it is just the horns, a full shoulder mount, or a european mount, the steer is gonna die.

The owners don't care how it dies as long as they get their money.

I have seen a few "hunts" for cattle listed places, but no matter how it is done, the same basic steps have to take place for the "Trophy" to end up on the wall.

I thought you meant in the hunting lease classifieds. Better to sell them for the monday than waste them.

Yes Cool, I have a trophy Raider Red nose on my wall. Them Saddle Tramps are still after me!

there have been articles i have read in the past where on some very large acareage ranches the cows dont get rounded up regularly & start to go wild & owners end up "hunting" then & usually have ppl pay to go hunt one up
