I'm thinking about going on a NO GUNS (knife only) Hog Doggin adventure Saturday night. Not too sure about grabbing the back legs of a boar that is mad as heck while being swarmed by dogs. I think it is going to be quite entertaining/comical. I suspect it will be similar to txkiller's last trip where he chased that rascal down with bullets flying. I'll be sure to take pics, if I do not return I love you all dearly. Any advise?

As long as you are at the [censored] end of the hog, you ought to be ok. Just do what them boys tell ya. They've prolly done it a few times. Back when my cousin hunted with dogs, he wouldn't let anyone bring a gun. 'Cept maybe himself.

Its a blast!! I did it last weekend and we got 13 pigs, so have fun with it!! Once you get comfortable with it during the day, than turn around and do it at NIGHT!!

hog dogging is a blast we dont take knives or guns we just take hog hobbles and catch em and tie em then bring home and train the pups on them

It is easier than you think, common sense, set of nuts and good dogs will make it fun. If you are out of shape you will be sucking wind if they do not bay quick and close. Good luck

Great advise indeed... the adventure was postponed, so no pics to share yet. I'm pretty excited! I do need to stop and pickup a cup though, ha.

x2 for Bob over at Hunters Creek Ranch, we had a blast over there and I would recommend him to anyone! The Hogs with dogs is an adventure you will not forget!

Carry a knife with a long blade. You want to go deep and thru all the vitals. You will be jacked up on adrenalin and going at it like a sewing machine. The hunt I went on one of the dogs got killed and I didn't much care for that. Other than that it was a blast. We killed one that went about 350lbs. I will tell you a big pig can whoop some butt so listen to your guide.

Make sure your knife has a hand guard or finger hole, and don't swing it in, because their will be lots of stuff going on at once with the people and dogs and you run the risk of cutting your hand if you slip. Once the dogs and guide get control of the hog just place the knife up behind the shoulder blade and push in and cut down. I used a big K bar knife and worked very well.
