Which area is better for mule deer hunt, the Panhandle, or Tans Pecos area? Also, any suggestions for finding an available hunt. Thanks for any help.

Still got a few spots here in the trans pecos, for combo hunters. One mulie buck and one wt buck. I am partial, so the Trans Pecos for me. Let me know if your interested. $3,800.00 all inclusive. First one of the yr, look at this thread http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/u...humping_mulies_

I think it depends on the specific ranch you are hunting as to which is better. I have hunted both regions and right now in TransPecos we have better genetics than when we hunted the southern Panhandle. Check the Texas Big Game Awards for both areas and see what counties have the best success. I would talk to some TP&W biologists and get their feedback also. With rainfall in TransPecos region last year and this year it will be a banner year for that area.

IMO - Bigger bucks in the Trans Pecos. More deer and easier hunting in the Panhandle. (maybe I should say more accessible deer in the Panhandle)
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Why do I have the urge to respond..."keep driving West"? Maybe it has something to do with being farther away from home, family, in-laws.. ... or is it much farter west like in Arizona or Utah?

The panhandle is the Rockie Mtn. species, the trans-pecos are desert. I have seen much much bigger pics from the panhandle, not sure about the accessibility of the panhandle deer though.

X2 but I think there are more deer in the Trans-Pecos region and they are farther ahead in management right now. The Panhandle has larger deer year in and year out but I think there are less deer there right now. There are also more areas opening up in the Panhandle to hunt.

Yeh, but don't you have to be 'drawn', or something, to hunt Mule Deer in CO, NM, etc., but not in Texas?

Yeh, but don't you have to be 'drawn', or something, to hunt Mule Deer in CO, NM, etc., but not in Texas? yeah and some go on a point system. Here just buy the license and find the place to hunt. Some of those places also have tremendous hunting pressure and by luck of the draw you may get an are saturated with many hunters and not enough animals.
