Do taxidermists still do this? How many of the guys on here would give a free or reduced euro mount with a fully intact, taken care of cape?

I tell you what we do and most of the taxis I know(I can't speak for the rest on here). Giving a free skull mount for a cape is not good business sense considering that a skull mount goes for about $100 on up while the value of a deer cape is anywhere from $25 to maybe $100 for one of the really big bruisers out of South TX. BUT, the cape will have to be perfect. That means no scars, no torn ears, no big bulletholes, cuts, etc. because those capes are used as replacement capes for other customers who need one. I do not want to charge my customers $125 plus for a replacement cape and not too many would want to pay that. If I'd give a free skull mount that's what I would have to charge to break even. We give $25 credit for a good cape and in return don't have to bleed our customers when they need a good cape for their mount.

I know people used to do it for free, but I think euro mounts have gone up in price quite a bit. I seem to remember a few years ago they were like 30-40 bucks. Thanks for the info guys.
