Here's my scenario: I have a Moultrie D40 and recently came across a solar charger for it. I understand I need to use rchargable batteries in my camera with the solar panel so which batteries can I use? NiCd, NiMH or Lithiums in my camera. I ask this because I have read that not all cameras are compatible with NiMH (and not sure, obviously of other batteries). I can save almost 50% if I don't buy rchargable "Energizers" from Wally World by going to Harbor Freight and getting 6 D's and a charger Les than $35.
Any advise is appreciated in advance.

Better than Harbor Freight, go on E-bay and order some size D MiMH 10,000 MaH batteries and a charger. These will hold up much better than the stuff you get at Harbor Freight and you can get them cheaper as well. Will take about 10 days shipping from Hong Kong. I buy all my batteries on E-bay. Energizer rechargeable batteries are junk. Never heard that anything that takes a size D battery would not take a NiMH. Size D is a size D. Note that the voltage on rechargeable batteries will be slightly less than that of a non-rechargeable, but that should not be an issue. You DO NOT want to use non rechargeable batteries hooked up to a solar panel as that will damage the batteries and cause them to leak, probably ruining your camera.
I have a Primos camera that uses 4 size Ds and have a Moultree solar panel hooked to it. I'm using 10,000 MaH NiMH rechargeable batteries.

If its a moultrie solar panel, it already has a battery built in it. That means you don't need any other batteries in the camera. The moultries are made so that if they sense there are batteries in the camera, they'll run off those instead of the solar panel you have plugged in. You just have to have an external battery for night use.

....and how would a man run an external source? Size? And how do i connect it to the panel/camera? Great info.
BTW I looked on eBay and some good deals on NiMH's and chargers - may be the way to go.

I have it plugged into my Primos camera.
