I just stumbled across some information on hunting in the caddo national grassland park. i wasnt aware you were allowed to. Does anyone have any info about this area? i live about an hour away from it and would like to try it out a few weekends this year. can you hunt with a firearm? is there a lot of deer? is there alot of pressure? if anyone could help me out i would appreciate it.

You have to have the APHP to hunt it. Costs $48. You may want to go later in the year. I've run into some scary people out there.

Avoid opening weekend. Actually, avoid weekends period until late in the season. There really are some scary folks that show up sometimes but most are okay. Rifles are okay. Try going out there during the week and try the southern unit near Ladonia. It's been a few years since I last went but I have seen and shot deer there. I still buy my $48.00 permit each year just in case I get the urge to go since it's not far from me. If they still require or offer one it's a good idea to apply for a doe permit each year if you are going to hunt there but it is probably already past the application deadline for this year. The instructions for applying should be in the book that they send you with your permit purchase.

I hunted there last year. Saw a bunch of deer and hogs my first couple of times out there. I even passed on a legal shooter and then never saw another one legal to shoot, lol. The advice above is good. Early season and weekends...forget it. Late season and weekdays are when you want to go. The more legwork you put in, the more successful you're going to be also. There are a couple of places to camp around the two lakes. Good fishing too.
Mmmm Hmmm
