Well after much stand time, last night I finally had a doe come by my new stand.

I decided about 5:30 to go to the stand and see if I could get some meat for the freezer. The wind was blowing from the SW which was perfect for this new ladder stand I had put up. I drove to the lease (which is about 3 minutes from my house). I got out of the truck, put my scentblocker on, sprayed down with scent cover, and headed to my stand. After sitting there about 30 minutes I heard something behind me to my right. I slowly turned and focused my eyes through the brush. There she was. A big fat doe. My mind started racing of thoughts of deer steaks and jalepeno cheddar summer sausage. She was about 25 yards away and closing. I thought to my self...."this is a done deal!" I grabbed my bow and hooked my release to the string. Not only was I pumped about the bountiful harvest of venison I was about to partake, but was also excited because after two years, I was about to draw blood for the first time with my bow. As the doe meandered through the brush I watched her every step as she had no idea that I was there ready to put her down. I had my eyes set on an opening in the brush that she was 10 feet from stepping into. All of the sudden she stopped. My heart started beating 1000 beats per minute. Without being able to see her I hoped that she was snacking on a few more acorns before her demise. Then.....

She blew like hell and ran off. Why does this have to happen??? 15 yards away and she busted me. I guess its true that the scent crap doesnt always work. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait.

You wanted it too bad that is why it happened. But it is so exciting in that little time anyways. She will be back.

Alot of people wouldn't consider that a successful hunt, but I do. It was still alot of fun!

It happens. I own a lot of Scent-Loc and wear it every time I get on stand. It definitely helps but by no means is any of it 100% fool proof. Opening weekend I hunted a stand with a marginal wind and I haven’t been blown that much since my junior year in college…..not in the good way. grin It always seems to be less effective in the oppressive heat of the early season.

I think ctownboy is right in saying you want it too bad! Two years is an awful long time to not have a "happy ending" at something but geez….I can almost sense the “Pucker Factor” in you just by reading your post. Relax…I think you are going to be successful…..probably tonight when you get back in the tree! Good luck and we’ll be watching to see you post some pics….tomorrow! up

And you are absolutely correct….every day in the tree is a successful hunt!

cheers

Last year I was watching 2 does eating corn I'd thrown out when one them blew and both ran off. 5 minutes later the one that blew came walking back in to finish eating the corn!!!

IF IT HAPPENED EVERY TIME LIKE WE WANT IT TO, IT WOULDN'T BE
ANY FUN ANY MORE... AT LEAST TO ME.

I bet your body is doing some funny stuff when you get excited, never know.

I haven't taken one yet with bow either (this is my first year), I'm pretty sure im going to pee myself the first time I see something.

I saw 6 deer last weekend and 6 deer saw me... We joke about their conversations at "deer camp". How many humans did you see? I saw him too and decide to pass on him.

I'm getting in my box with my heater and cheetos in a couple of weeks with my point and click rifle. It's on then!!!

I think it was a successful hunt and a good story, I too await my first bowkill, friday about 6:30 pm I watched two doe's walk toward's my feeder from 135 yrd's out they were feedin along but coming staight for my feeder and I thought this is it. Then at 80 yrd's away they slipped into the brush not to be seen again that day. But it was fun gettin all jacked up.
