I had an unusual dove hunt today. Went out and while driving down the fence line came across a javelina. I have hunted this place for 14 years and never seen one on it before. Anyway, my question is what should I expect to pay for a shoulder mount?

An open mouth hog is usually pretty high. Most taxi's are charging more than $300 for a White Tail and they are usually less than a hog... alot less. I would price a full body mount also.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

My taxidermist charges $525 for an OM Javelina shoulder mount and $1050 for a lifesize mount, but he is one of the best in Texas and may be a bit more than some part-time folks.

Thanks all! I called around and looks like $575 for an open mouth shoulder mount. These things are so rare in my area I'm going to have to have him mounted! The wife might not be too happy about this, but you only live once!

Hawk, I know money can be tight but price shopping taxidermy work is the worst thing you can do. Not that paying top dollar will give you the best mount but you should def. look at the work that the taxidermist is doing and find the happy medium between quality and price.

Thanks all! TGR you are right. I took him in to a great taxidermist in our area. For some reason, I didn't think a shoulder mount on a javelina would be quite as high as a deer shoulder mount. I know this will be a quality job. Thanks again!

i shot one a few weeks ago.
freer deer camp wanted $600 for a open mouth, i got it done for $350 from a awesome shop after pulling a few friend cards.
around SA, $500-$600 seems to be the going rate. our whitetail shoulder mounts are $450-$550 here

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Well the reason the open mouth javelinas (or anyother game for that matter) are so expensive is because the forms and jawsets are very expensive. You throw in the cost for tanning, shipping, good quality glass eyes, quality glue, clay, etc and your dircet costs are close to what some of you said it would cost to have it mounted. A taxidermist has to make a living like everyone else so has to charge for labor. $450 on up sounds correct.
