academy has a taurus 1911 i like.. thoughts on quality? i mean its 550, or i could go with a smith m&p... decided against the revolver

I shot the ever loving Heck out of both my Taurus 1911's and never had a single FTF or FTE. You'll have some detractors, but I think it's one of the most solidly built 1911's for the money these days. If only they made one in Commander length, I'd own a third...

My only problem with a PT 1911...the roll marks/engraving on the slide...too much. I cannot be a Taurus detractor, they're fine firearms. Now, customer service...

At $550, I'd be torn between the PT 1911 and the M&P.

I like mine. Shoots great and never have had any problems.

I love mine I bought it at Academy also. The only issue that I with mine is that the ambi safety came off. But im right handed so no big deal. I was in your same shoes also deciding between the pt1911 and m&p. I went with the pt1911 cuz I really wanted a 1911.

the only holdup i really would have is that i love the way a 1911 feels, works etc... but i wanted the commander size, which is why im thinking m&p...

Taurus is a fine manufacture. Not the level of quality of some of the brands out there, but you do get a great gun for the money. Also they have a great warranty on them.

Got the duotone this Summer, fired @ 1000 rds through it so far with no failures at all. Accurate as any auto I've ever shot, too. Love it.

If your the average shooter (range once in awhile), the gun will suit you fine. If you shoot a lot I would suggest you look at buying a springfield entry level 1911 or better. I know several guys that had many issues with thr Taurus 1911. If a manufacture adds that many bells and whistles that our typically found on 1K plus 1911's for a low price, something has to be sacrificed. It most cases it is quality. Go to glocktalk.com in the 1911 forum and look around. You'll get some great input from guys that have alot of 1911 experience. You get what you pay for with 1911's. It by all means is a low quality entry level 1911. Spend a hundred or more and look at your other options. I have owned and traded many 1911's. If it's just a semi that you want to have fun with, I would definately get the M & P over the Taurus. Better gun for what your paying for.

iv shot the crap out of the m&p great gun have atleast 20000 through the gun have only shot the 1911 a little both great guns for the money its all on what u need it for
