In Corpus there are two places that are must try for the seafood, we have a house there and spend alot of time in and around corpus so I've tried plenty of places. neither one is a traditional seafood joint, but both are by far the two best spots for seafood that is not just battered and fried, both are pricey though!
Mama Mia's (downtown on N Mesquite)- Upscale italian, pretty traditional menu, we always go with he nitely specials, usually a couple of fresh catch and a few meat dishes ( if the tenderloin is on the menu skip the fish, order it, dont look at the bill when you pay and enjoy one of the best steaks you'll ever have) whatever it is will be worth it, usually comes simply grilled with some sort of italian sauce on top, usually including fresh crab and shrimp.
Dragonfly (on Padre island Drive) - Mainly french type fair but not in a stuffy stuck up sorta way, very casual and outstanding food either off the menu or on the specials, last time there the girlfriend got a daily special listed as a "seafood bake" and it simply was one of the best seafood dishes I have ever eaten, if it is on the menu or specials don't even continue reading, just order it and wait. I got the grilled shrimp with coconut rice and once again one of the best shrimp dishes I have ever eaten, large, fresh shrimp, simply easoned and grilled with outstanding and unusual sides.
