Long shot I guess but, I'm reaching out on a couple forums to see if I can get lucky. Had a Kahr CW9 (two tone silver/black) stolen out of my wife's car on the west side of Houston this past Sunday. Im in the process of retrieving the serial from my FFL cause I didn't have it recorded anywhere. Unless someone can tell me any reason why not to post the serial number here, I will as soon as my FFL gets it to me.

Make sure that you advise the PD who made the report so that it can be entered into NCIC as stolen.

Last year my son had a sig taken while he was in a convenience store. Somehow the police found it in a pawn shop and he got it back a couple of weeks ago so there might be hope.

I dont guess pawn shops are required to check a firearm for being stolen before or after they take it in on pawn or buy it. There are so many pawn shops in houston that i don't think i could find them all and plus houston is 60mi. from the house so going to look is out of the question.

The Legit pawn shops are required to run all the serial numbers on guns or stereos or anything with a serial number...they for the most part go into a computer system that us Law Enforcement can run...it works PROVIDED that the victim of the theft reports the correct serial number to the police when they make their report.
hope you get your gun back

Pawn shops don't "run" the pawned items. It's up to LE to check pawns in their jurisdiction through a database called LEADS. All pawns are recorded there. If the PD has not serial # then it's just another gun and will not be recovered. If an officer or detective checks your gun periodically through LEADS then there's a very good chance it will be recovered IF it went to a pawn shops.

The crooks nowadays are very savvy to our (LE) monitoring and regulation of pawn shops. We're seeing most stolen property going through unregulated venues such flea markets.

There is also a web site called www.hotgunz.com you can report them stolen at.you can also check any gun that your buying on there. its real easy. I recommened anybody buying a firearm to get the serial # and run it there first. It will save you alot of money and the headache. and its free
Check it out

In my area the pawn shops submit copies of pawn tickets to the city PD in which they operate. They are not required to run serial numbers before they accept a pawned item. Once the tickets are recieved by the local law they review the items against reported stolen items. But it might be different from city to city, county to county.

Thanks for the reply's and the advice guys. My wife did call the PD and give them the serial number but i can't make them check the databases. It was sunday morning about 11:00 and she was at a mall parked not very far from the store and security was frequently making rounds. These people are quick and very experienced. My lock was completely gone from the door with no damage to the handle or door whatsoever. My wife learned a valuable lesson about leaving things in plain view on the dash. My garmin gps and my radar detector was sitting up there like eye candy so, you guys learn from our mistake. At first i wish i would have walked up on them but, now that I've cooled down, I realize that for their sake and my freedom, I'm kinda glad I didn't. I know if they were in my house It wouldn't be an issue but, I sure as heck wouldn't want to be in court cause i put seven holes in someone instead of just letting them run off with my "replaceable belongings". Anyways, thanks for the support guys.

My wife had the same thing happen in Katy earlier in the year, they used what looked like a large screw driver to punch in the doorlock, it pushed into the doorlock itself and broke away from the handle into the door and then they pushed down on the screwdriver to raise the lock mechanism to unlock the door on our F150. Lost a camera and two iPods, they had been at a Horse Show for my daughter, thankfully my daughters saddle wasn't something they wanted and left it in the truck.

They busted into my Excursion the same way a couple of years ago. They punched a hole right between the door handle and door and pulled up the rod that controlled the lock. I was at lunch and all they took was my Orvis briefcase with my computer in it. Left the GPS on the dash, the iPod in the console, and the 20GA behind the second seat.

Look up "Jimmi Jammer" online. It's supposed to prevent this kind of break in and are fairly cheap and easy to install. I put them on my Excursion after the break-in and probably need to put them on the new truck before it's too late.

Also, if you ever keep a gun in the truck, look into joining the NRA (you should probably be a member anyway). You get $1000 worth of gun insurance with membership and I hear the process is easy to file a claim and payout is fast. Fortunatley I've never had to try it personally.

That's exactly what they did, pushed the lock itself in, seperating it from the handle. I had been a NRA member for a long time but failed to renew my membership five or six months ago. Yea, I remembered about the insurance and it kinda feels like karma now since I failed to renew.

PM returned Mark........... Thanks!

Had a witness 38 super stolen out of my truck in my driveway a few weeks ago. Had serial #. Sheriff and ATF agent that called me said there is a better than average chance of recovering it, may take a long while, but will eventually turn up somewhere. ATF agent informed me that they are constantly checking pawn shops and the like for stolen ser#s, in this day and time, seems to be on the rise. Hope they come back, so i can catch them, shoot a few thieves and that crap will stop around here. Sheriff agreed with me, even encouraged it.

Since you learned the hard way I'll not chastize you for it, but others here need to take note. Don't leave valuables in your vehicle. There was a time when you could pull up to a store, leave your windows down due to the heat and have a couple of rifles in a rack and they'd never be touched. Those days have long passed.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.
