I've had a cheap Tasco 3-9x40 on mine for years. It works very well. I mainly shoot the Core Lokts and have fired off a few Hornady LeveRevolution rounds, too. I really like my Marlin 30-30.

I used to shoot the Core-Lokt ammo with mediocre results. That being said, I was also a 'newbie' shooter and I'm sure more than one miss was my fault rather than the ammo's.
I have been shooting Hornady LEverEvo's for 3 yrs. now with fantastic results. The LEverEvolution round was specfically developed by Hornady both for and using the Marlin lever acton rifles. So the bullet is a perfect match for the 336 series of rifles.
As fas as scope's go, IMO anything that will hold it's zero is a good scope. Some are better than others for sure, but preference and the shooter's comfort factor can also go along way towards accuracy.
I mainly hunt at night, so I peronally believe in the theory of the larger the objective, the better for lgiht gathering ablity.
After that, you get into things like glass quality, reputation, zero holding ability, costs, etc. Scopes are a very personal thing.....

Ive had mine for 19 years and shot it a hand full of times. Its time to put it to use or trade it for something else. someone else said the hornadays were the round to get.

I'm not one for scoping levers, but for the money the Nikon Coyote line is good. I tend towards higher end optics, the Leupold VX II generally being my minimum.

I personally can see as far as you would ever want to take a shot with a 30-30 and have never liked a scope on it. I do like the Nikon prostaff 3x9x50 scope. have one on my other gun and it is just as clear as my leupold for 1/3 the cost. 50 mm. aperature lets you hunt earlier and later in the day and I can even hunt at night for varmint and hogs with just a small streamlight held next to the stock.

3030 is an ole reliable. any ole 4x or 6x scope will do. don't have to be an expensive one. and as for ammo you can either buy reg 150grn or 170grn cor lokts off the shelf just about anywhere. either will work just fine.
