This is my first year to hunt doves. I am enjoying it a lot. I was curious as to what dove hunting is like in the Winter month Dec-Jan? Is it more of walking the fields or sit and hit the fly by's? Let me know...

I hunted on Jan. 1 a few years ago and got a limit in 30 degrees temps near Dallas. Put the mojo in a field that cows graze on. I hunted a few days before and only got about 5.

They tend to fly in bigger groups during the winter. It can be fun and very exciting if you're sitting where they want to feed! Mojos help but only if you are hunting in an area where they want to feed.

I use to hunt during the winter down in San Marcos. We would catch them coming from the big crop fields into the trees to roost. We sat down by the river and got them as they flew over by the 100's, it was a beautiful thing!

Big keys are sitting on a feeding field or find a flyway between roost and field. They will be high if hunting the flyway. If you find a feeding field it will be fast action.
