What are the best times of the year to go?
Do you actively go out for coyotes only?
I am looking to make dedicated coyote hunting trips this winter and I will take any tips you can give me.

Longtime hunter/shooter/fisherman who loves being outdoors. I used to hunt/compete with my son, but he's now stationed in Germany. Never enough time.

Anytime in the winter is best. Traditionally speaking, that is when their fur is in it's prime. However, you can do it year round. I like winter time because "they" lose some cover and you don't have to worry about chiggers and ticks. The latter being the most important to me smile. Having places to go hunt becomes a challenge to some. You don't want to go to the same places all the time because you'll educate the coyotes that you don't kill. I hunt for yotes probably 75% of the time I spend in the woods. Or I should say, varmints in general. I can't afford a deer lease and don't have anyone to share the costs with. So, varmint hunting is what I do most.

Ruff pretty much nailed it. Plus you can go after them at night, and there is no limit! We are about to hit them hard!

I am excited to say the least. I have decided that during deer hunting if a 'yote shows up it will not be his lucky day. At the end of deer season I am hoping to get the opportunity to predator hunt 5-10 times at least.

Kepp the ideas coming guys.

I do not call during deer season but during the winter is when it is at it's best. I have called in plenty during the heat of the summer. But like mentioned above, location is key. You can't overhunt areas. You have to constantly change your locations. Coyotes are smart and they will get used to the calls you use. Bestt of luck to you.

I'm pretty sure he meant to say "You CAN over hunt an area."

Yes sort of, thank you.

I guess I could have made it more clear. You can overhunt an area. I meant it as you can't overhunt an area because that will cause you to lose that spot later on.

Do you use a mouth call or electronic call?

I prefer an electronic myself. I'm getting older and it's hard for me to sit still. I've got to move around a little to keep stuff from hurting, lol. Anyway, with an electronic, you can place it a ways off and the predator is going to be focused on that...the sound. I use a decoy next to it, a lot of times too. I still carry a lanyard full of calls, though. Cause you never know what situation you're going to run in to. If yote hunting, you have to play the wind. Your scent will get you busted more times than not with those wiley dogs. It's a lot of fun and when you bag your first, you'll be hooked. Trust me cheers

Deffinatly hunt the wind night or day. If day hunting try to keep the sun at your back, and wind in your face if possible, and dont forget the shotgun.

Electronic but nothing works quite like a good mouth call. And in good, I mean the call and the person calling. Sort of like fingerprints. No two are the same. With an electronic, it is always the same.

Gary Roberson, the President of Burnham Brothers Game Calls, is also on your Pro Staff and helped design your Coyote Special coyote. You might want to give him a call......

To answer you question: September through March. The colder, the better.

After gutting a deer, I put the guts in an clearing about 200 yards from camp. Always gets a Yote or two on the deer lease.

After watching alot of youtube night hog hunts, its nothing to see a downed hog laying there with a coyote(s) circling in the dark within minutes.

Gary is huge in the Coyote hunting world. He helped design the Nikon Coyote Special scope too. I'm getting one soon I hope. It will probably go on a .243 I love to shoot but then again an AR would be nice should a follow- up shot be needed.
I will contact Gary Bob....There's a good Southern name if I do say so myself.
Keep the suggestions coming guys!
