Here are a couple of dove hunting pictures from last night. My camera broke, so I haven't been taking pictures this season.

Two of us got our limit in just over 1 1/2 hours down near Stephenville.

I can't tell which of the first two I like better.

Alright, so not to offend an owner of one of those dogs, but they are pretty ugly with the goatee and all. What made you want one of those dogs? What kind of temperment do they have? Just curious why y'all didn't get a GSP, Vizsla, Weim, or Pointer.

Ben - Klaire is looking good!

Doug - Nice dog. Where/who did you get her from?

Great temperament. I swear my dog has a switch she flips on and off. I let her in the house, she is calm and relaxed. Hit the field, and man the motor revs up. I left my pellet gun on my back deck yesterday after taking a few pop shots at the resident squirrel. Later on I hear my dog whining and look out the window to see her sitting and staring at the pellet gun. She just wants to hunt.

I wanted a dog that can do it all, blood track, upland, water and fur. All the dogs you named are great dogs. Sniper John's Vizlas are evidence of that. What really impressed me about DD's is the German breeding system. Very strict and not every dog gets to breed. A series of test have to be completed along with hips being clear, coat and conformation meeting certain requirements before a dog can breed within the system.

This ensures the person buying a DD is getting a dog bred for hunting not prancing around a show ring.

Fair enough. Thanks for the explination. I figured the reasons were something along those lines.

You can get any of those breeds you mentioned from the same system, expect pointer but I do not know of any field pointer that do not come from hunting lines.

As Stinkbelly, TDH09 and Doug H. would agree I'm sure. The temperment of these dogs compares closely to the GSP I grew up with. When I say that, I mean it has been a while since I have seen one similar to the 5 GSP I have had over my lifetime. My dad has a GSP now that acts exactly like an English pointer. She could care less about people, but would have made an unbelievable upland hunting dog. The temperment of my dog is just like TDH09 expained about his. My almost two year old little girl can step straight on my dogs flanks while she is a sleep on the tile floor and she will just look up at her like "what's up?". Then you take her Saturday morning to the duck blind, she goes in first grabs a 25lb river rat, it grabs her with its 1" teeth and the dog bleeding from the neck shakes the rats brains out of its ear hole!

Bring her home and she piles up on the couch with the little one to watch some Dora!

Oh yeah, I like the second pic!

Call me one of the weird lab guys but I think they are good looking and cool. Matter of fact, I dang near went that route. I just didn't think it would be fair to the dog to only use to chase ducks when they have so much drive to upland hunt.

Any post about Izzy is really about Deutsh Drahthaars. I don't care.

Just like TDH09 and Trouble explained. They have tons of drive for any type of game you are after and when they get home, they are the best family pet. Izzy sleeps on the floor next to my bed and her best friend is a pomeranian. Now if she saw a pomeranian in the field and I told her to get it, that would be a different story.

The German breeding system is what did it for me.

When someone calls her an "Ugly Dog", I don't see that as a negative thing. I often wear a shirt that says "If you want more birds, get an Ugly Dog".

I am not sure what a long haired pointer is. A Deutsch Drahthaar is a German versatile hunting dog.

Great post you DD guys. I love the effort you spend and the results you have achieved.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.
