This season for the first time in years I am on a lease that would be good bow hunting or in my case hunting with a revolver. I want to take a deer, probably a doe with my .357 mag.

The feeder is around 20yds from the stand which is a good distance for my revolver. Unlike with a pistol I actually am a good shot with my revolver.

For those of yall that have killed deer with a .357, what round did yall use? I have some hornady leverevolution, will those work or should I get something different.

The past 3 seasons I've been using a Winchester 94 with 125gr soft point Winchesters. I shoot the 125grs as they are more accurate in the rifle than a 158grn. Body shots have been through with the slug lodged against the skin on the far side. I'm set up for a 40 yard shot. My Blackhawk would fair better with 158grn, as it is more accurate with them. I have not tried to take deer with it yet. I'd be comfortable with it at 30yrd if I could accuately place the shot.

I'm just recommending to use whats accurate in your weapon and keep it within a reasonable range.

I used a 125gr as well out of a python years ago. It will drop them no problem out to 40yds. Good luck

I haven't used the 125gr for deer of hogs but have killed several hogs and deer using the 180gr partition, inside 100 yards I prefer this to about anything else, Have a 357 superblack hawk scoped and that is what it is sighted in for.

Started using the Hornady Leverevolution in a Marlin 1894 with a 16.25 inch barrel, deadly on deer and hogs and 1.25 inch groups at 100 yards not bad accuracy.

With the partitions expect an exit hole, with the Hornady havy just had one but the bullets have been against the hide on the far side,

For me at normal revolver range I like the penetration of the 180gr partitions, unfortunantly I think winchester ma have discontinued that load, so it might be a reloading only now unless you can find somewhere.

357 is a little small for my tastes but effective if given the proper ammo and bullet placement. 125's to 140's for the heart/lung region and 158's and up for a shoulder shot. Keep a 125 in the cylinder for H/L with a heavier round following. If you have to take a shoulder shot just cycle or roll the cylinder to the next round.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Just practice on something this size of a paint can and you should be just fine with that gun bolt

Recuve or compound - or cross bow?

Didn't you hear? You need at least a .270 to kill a deer in Texas...
