I would have crapped my pants. This is the e-mail from my cousin. He invited me to come hunting with him but I don't like the idea of being attacked by a mountain lion.
I had a great week of bowhunting last week. I shot a brown phase black
bear from the ground, as well as a small 6 point bull elk...but the climax
of the hunt occurred as I was tracking my bull elk. As I came over the
nose
of a ridge into a dark timber ravine, I heard a subtle noise below me and
assumed it was my wounded elk...I nocked another arrow and slowly crept
over
the edge and was suddenly surprised by a flash of yellow coming straight
towards me. Instinctually, I drew back my bow and launched an arrow at
the
target as it closed in to less than 10 yards. Somehow, the arrow found
itself in the chest of my assailant...a mountain lion. It was a large Tom
weighing over 120 pounds. Even though it was a self defense shot, since I
had fortunately purchased a mountain lion tag earlier this summer, the
Fish
Wildlife and Parks is allowing me to keep the animal. It was the first
one
shot in Montana this year and it will make a great trophy mount in our
house....YES, Amy is going to let me put it in the house! This is the
second time I have been attacked by a mountain lion while archery elk
hunting...the first time it occurred in the Missouri River Breaks.
Everyone
is concerned about being attacked by Grizzly bears but they forget about
our
silent predator. Hope your hunting seasons are going as well as mine.
