Has anyone ever used BSA scopes? I've read some good reviews but i'm not convinced they're as good as they say they are.

I had one once on a 22 hornet (was on the gun when I purchased it) and it was actually decent. I have seen some on other guns and truly would have a hard time putting them on a water gun. I'm sure others have had success but I would go another route if possible

My son has a BSA on his .17, i think it is called a Sweet 17 or somesuch. It is bright, clear and accurate to 150 (the farthest we have tried). Cheap, knock off, Chinese, call it what you want, the glass snobs will always have a problem with anything that doesn't say Zeiss, Luepold, Nikon, et al on the side of it. There are junk scopes out there but lumping them all into one box because it's not a name brand really isn't fair. I doubt you will find anyone who calls it junk has actually tried one. My 2 Cents

I have one on the shelf that couldn't handle the recoil of a heavy bench .22-250.

I retract my earlier statements, obviously there are issues, we just haven't had them on "light" guns. Good luck with the glass search

I had one given to me. It was new in the box, never mounted. It wouldn't hold zero on a .222. Tried it on a .22LR and same issue. I threw it in the trash. I wouldn't spend my hard earned money on one, that's for sure.

I put a BSA on a .270 and it wouldn't hold zero for nothing. After 22 rounds the glass went black. I will never buy another BSA scope. Just my

I've got it on my 30.06, .243, .17 HMR. Sighted in the 30.06 3 years ago. Never made an adjustment with it since.
Love mine but I only hunt out to about 200 yards.

It's a risk with them. Between two sweet .17's, one would zero fairly well and hold just fine, but if you tried to adjust it per the yardage then you were screwed. The other would not even come close to zeroing.

I had one on my 7mmWSM and it never came off zero and even after I sold the rifle the guy still has it on there and has since shot 2 elk and cointless hogs. I had the Catseye.

I can't speak for BSA in particular but with cheap scopes in general it is always a coin toss, or maybe a dice game with one winning combo. I can live with a scope that is not too bright or is not real clear, but a scope that can't hold zero is worthless. I have a couple of cheap scopes that have been great for years now, and I have had several that were useless within a year, some much sooner than that. Some things are worth chancing at a certain price point, other things are not. Life and wasted dollars has taught me that scopes are not one of the things I will skimp on any more. I like a good warranty and a reputation for service on my scopes, and those usually come with a higher price tag. Getting a fixed, refurbished, or new replacement in the mail is so much better than an unanswered phone or a gosh I'm sorry.

Had one on a 22 mag and it held zero. Never had one on anything with any recoil. If you are needing to get out cheap look at centerpoint scopes. I have two one on a 22 and one on a 223. The only time they have lost zero was when I was hauling a feeder on the four wheeler and it slipped and smacked the gun. I know they will hhold up to a 220 swift recoil. I thought it was a fluke with the first one but have since used 4 different scopes and they worked great for the price

I have a Sweet 223 on a Mini 14 Ranch with the factory collapsible folding stock. It holds the 2 MOA accuracy with no problem (it is a Mini14, which is not bad for a Mini). Not the brightest, but still fun to shoot, just might not be the best low light scope! Not bad for the price though, I caught it on sale!

Use nothing bigger than .223. And that's the most expensive one.

Sums it up perfectly! I had one and it was terrible past 50 yards. Everything blurred beyond belief. I bought it to try and save money but it was so bad I wound up buying a Nikon and just putting the BSA on a .22LR

Two years ago I put a $50 3-9x50 BSA on a rifle my dad gave me, a 1966 Remington model 700 7mm mag. All of my shots were at least 6 inches apart at 100 yds. I remounted and re-zeroed, but it didn't help. I called my dad for help and he said, "take that d**** thing off that rife; it's like putting cheap retreads on a Cadillac. I told you not to put a cheap scope....(20 minute lecture)..."
Although I was 29 at the time, I deserved the lecture/rant. I should've known better than to buy a scope that came in a toy-like plastic and cardboard package. Another clue I missed is that I didn't need an Academy employee to escort the scope to the cash register. I returned the BSA and bought a Leupold VX-1 for $229. They escorted this item. The Leupold is on and does not budge. Had I listened to my father when he gave me the rifle, I would've saved $50+ in ammo.

As for BSA Ive had two scopes and 1 BSA Red Dot if I recall correctly.Didn't care for the Red Dot if I recall and went with a Tasco Pro Point 5 shortly after. I tore one up with the recoil from a .300 win mag.It was the cats Eye model.About the second box of ammo the German style post recticle fell apart inside. I tried the contender series latter on a Savge LE1 in .308 Winchester and it did hold POI quite well and was not any worse in light transmission than a budget brand Simmons or Bushnell say as you get on "super duper world' package guns.(note those said packages have likely killed hundreds of thousands of deer). Course Simmons and Bushnell have some upper class brands that I think are better than the BSA I have had. I had Simmons ATEC in fact it went on same said .300 win mag and did quite well. Ive heard it said before its a safer gamble to use red dot stuff from BSA than their actual lens optics. I think they have to be better than crap like Lepers and BEc etc... but hey watch the sales and stuff and you can get into entry level Nikon's and Leupold's for $150 and that s like 90-93% light transmission. I would trust certain Redfields and Weavers too. Depending on the year and manufacture as they both have changed hands a few times and in so doing quality. I myslef only have 3 rifles and of the two i have scoped they are wearing Nikon Pro Staff scopes. Ive had Leupold M8 on a handgun and Burris Full field II on a .308 Browning BLR and throe were obviously great optics .I dont think the entry level Nikon's I have suffer anything less in light and holding POI. Find good deals here they are hard to beat usually... http://swfa.com/default.aspxIve heard good stuff about Millet scopes. Swift Scopes and I myslef wounder about Mueller optics.http://swfa.com/Mueller-APV-Riflescopes-C135.aspx The Cabelas brand of optics IE Pine ridge etc...have had some decent reviews before too. I think endurance vs light transmission vs price is the best. Just price alone will leave you hurting or wanting
The way things should be are not often the way things are.....
