I shoot the two blade, I like the hole it makes and blood trails are nice

There is a previous thread comparing the spitfire to the rage. The rage is too popular to not be an effective broadhead and there are hunters that swear by them.

I would say that one of the con's would be the O-ring. I have never been a fan of the broadheads that utilize O-rings.

The one time that I used Rage to shoot a doe, she dropped in her tracks. I hit her directly behind the shoulder and the arrow deflected up and penetrated her spine.

Granted, I only shot Rage one time, but since it deflected my confidence was greatly deminished.

i liked them until i shot a red deer hind that was quartering away.... perfect shot placement right behind shoulder, HUGE wound but didn't penetrate through the ribs.. chased that deer for a day until i found it bedded down and we got a running shot on it with muzzleloader..

this is the wound that the deer was still running around after over 24 hours...

with that said , i'd wait for broadside shot if you use them.... i just don't trust em for quartering away shots. if you look at the bottom of the wound towards the shoulder theres a big hole where it tried to penetrate, but must have deflected off bone or something

I used them for a short time when I first started, but went to the G5 strykers because a friend said he had a problem one time with one not opening. I have heard a lot of good things about them, but don't want to take the risk of a deflection or them not opening. I have had great luck with the strykers though.

I have shot a few animals with them so far and am very happy with them.

Most of the problems you hear about come from operator error.

shot 2 deer with them last season. They both died within 30yds. Shot at another and i think one of the blades opened when i let go because the arrow curved severly and missed the deer. Now it is magnus buzzcuts for me. They fly the same as my field tips

I hate them everyone on our lease has had problems with them and not being able to find there deer. I am using the three blade piston point-trophy ridge meat seekers.

I am in Colorado right now, matter of fact in a bear stand, last evening I shot a 6 x 6 bull Elk with a rage at 25 to 30 yards, I got 10 whole inches of penatration that wasn't enough to get a double lung.

The outfitters said mine was the 4th animal that rages did not proform and will not b allowed on his hunts any longer. I took off all of my rages and repaced them with a fixed blade.

I will use them on hogs only now because I don't care Igbo find the hog or not.

This is not the first time I have had a bad expirence with the rage but I thought I would give them another chance, not again.

Dang this took me forever to type in a tree stand.

I have had two bad experiences with rage. I think they are masters of marketing. I also think they set the standard that let companies know that buyers will pay $40 for 3 broadheads.

Other than some fixed blade not flying straigth, they always deploy! I will stick with G5 strykers or Slick Tricks.

ive heard of them getting loose and unfolding while walking through brush. heard of one blade deploying on entry sending the arrow going wild inside the animal. im gonna stick with a less complicated mechanical or fixed, most likely fixed

I've killed a lot of animals with them and have yet to have a problem. However, I only use them when I have a very clean place to shoot. I carry them along with g5 montecs, steel force sabertooths, and a couple other random ones for small critters. If in doubt, I nock a g5

I had an issue with one a couple years ago but that was my fault. I knew the o-ring was no tin good shape and I put the BH on and shot it at an animal and of course the blade opened before it hit the animal. It was my mistake and I will never make it again. I still love the Rage's and I still use them. I have shot several animals with them and it is devestating.

Thank you Boomhauer!

Sure are a lot of guys that always post on Rage threads that assume it's the arrow and not the Indian. I've got plenty of friends like this. They shoot 1" groups at 30 yards over and over.....then all I have to do is go...."Hey, let's shoot this next group for a six pack of Shiner"..... Just that litte bit of pressure and that 1" group blows up to a 3, 4 or 5" group and I'm drinking on their account! Talk about the Effn Yipps...WHEW! Oh how I love the human psyche...and gambling....except with those Effn 3-D tournament shooters...those boys are used to the pressure and I usually always end up buying the cerveza!...Which ain't a bad thing cause shooting against them makes me a better shooter.

back

I posted (with pictures) on the Rage vs. Spitfire post but our group has used Rage heads since they came out on the market almost 5 years ago and have shot everything from 300 lb. North Dakota whitetails to Rio Grande turkey and the Rage broadhead has performed flawlessly. Just for S&G (and the fact I'm trying to kill time until I leave for the lease on Friday!), I looked up the results from last years Archery Division of the Las Cazadores Deer Contest and went through the all the divisions (Best Low Fence Buck thru Best 9 Point) and tallied up what broadhead was used if it was listed:

Rage -8
G5 -4
Spitfire -4
Thunderhead -2
Slick Trick -2
Muzzy -2
Razorcaps -1
Sonic -1
Shuttle T -1
Nitro -1

Regardless of what broadhead your using...IT DON'T MATTER....Shoot Straight and Good luck this weekend boys!

cheers

Thats a problem with shot placement regardless of broadhead. Rage is about 3/4" when closed, which is more than enough to kill a deer even if, big if, it doesn't open. That being said there really isn't a way for that head to not open. There are a lot of people out there that say the make good shots but when you go to help them recover the animal and find the gut smell all over their arrow. If you don't find a deer it is because of a bad shot.

I have shot numerous pigs from footballs to large boars as well as a 400 lb oryx bull with Rage 2 blade and have never had a failure or an arrow that did not pass through. Oryx was 43 yards quartering and the arrow went in behind his left rib cage and blew out centerline of his neck. If anyone has some they want to get rid of let me know!!!

i will have to disagree with you. we watched a guy stalk a doe and he shot her at 25 yards. we all watched the arrow when it hit and it was a good shot put didn't penetrate cause the broadhead didn't open up......and that was after the same guy had shot a doe with a rage and it didn't open up either. i have 6 people to witness it. needless to say we wasted our money on the rage broadheads so i just keep a couple in my quiver just shot at a hog or something to try to get rid of all the ones i got......so take it how you want it this is just mine a group of hunters opinion that truly have tested them out.

this is like the Black Cloud question. I started using them when they came out, have NOT had any problems. I check the "O" rings before the hunt, have performed with out a problem
