Well dove hunting has been great so far this season. As many of yall know last year i had a ringneck dove slaughter yard. This year the guy planted cotton so i have been killing mostly morning dove in milo fields. Next year the farmer should plant milo at the ringneck slaughter yard. This year i have been hunting in milo fields around lubbock area. There has been lots of morning dove with only 2-8 ringnecks shot a trip. I have been hunting early in the morning and late in the evening and neither has been that great. The magical hour for me is about 4pm. they have been flying real good between 4and 6 for me. The milo fields have been stripped this past week with lots of grain on the ground.
Limit of morning dove:

Morning dove & ringneck dove:

One day i thought i would sit out in the horse pasture and try and shoot some dove. Well my friends horse found my dove mojo very interesting and was trying to itch himself with the wings. It was really funny watching him. Everytime he got real close the wings hit him and he would jump up. Then he started to try and kick it .

My set up:

Me sitting in the horse barn waiting on the dove:

snake that snuck up on me:

More dove:

Dove blood!!!

I am taking two friends out tomorrow and will post results.

Nice thread. I'd love to get to shoot some of those Eurasian kickers in the future. It's rare to get even any whitewings where I live now.

Nice pics. Like the horse lol

That snake would have bought it, as my first reaction would have been to empty the gun on him.

enjoy the hunting while you can, the rain here in south texas has all but ended our dove hunting.

went out monday and Only killed a handful of birds, tuesday only fired two shots

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
