I plowed it Tuesday and drilled it yesterday. 2.5 tons of fertilizer and a ton of seed for 32 acres. Now all I need is rain and for the grasshoppers not to eat it all. Trying a new mixture this year, Oats, Wheat, Barley. There was still some wheat seed left from last years crop on the ground so I suspect it will have more wheat than anything. An added bonus is the doves are all in that field. My hunters the next couple of weeks are going to have some fun..

i also just got done planting mine two weeks ago. I did a wheat clover and turnip mix. I went out to the lease on wedns and so far it looks like the clover is the only thing coming in. Hope we get some rain this weekend.

Just picked up the seed this a.m and will be heading out this afternoon to start planting. Note to everyone, put an exclusion cage up after the seed has sprouted so you can gauge how the plot did later in the winter

Like this one. Its cheap to make and will give you alot of info.

Why not. There are only so many open areas on the ranch. That spot is a 10 acre field. And it's not always planted

I like them in a food plot as well...gives everything something to eat when your dominant animals are hogging the feeder.

edit: and sometimes after a nice shower has come through, they could care less about the feeder and will come out for the green stuff.

we have a feeder sitting on the edge of our 2 acre plot right next to a small canyon draw.

Last year at one time, I had tossed out and had oats growing, had protein in the feeder, hand tossed corn, and had split peas in my "corn" feeder. I may have gone a little overboard.

Going out today to plant a mix..still new to the planting thing, and I'm going overboard again today. Oats, wheat, 2 kinds of turnips, chicory, clover...also have some rye laying around that I'll toss somewhere.

I don't know what I was thinking by having those feeders next to a lush food plot. Deer won't touch corn if they have nice groceries right beside it. roflmao
