does anyone on here know much about these? I have one in my motorhome 79ford at my deer lease and I'm having problems with the generator. its start and ran fine 2 weeks ago and this last weekend it starts up but when I let off the start switch it dies. this is using either switch outside or inside. any advice would be appreciated. I really dont want to pack it up and drive it anywhere to get it fixed. thanks

I had one in a rv several years ago and it was carbon on top of the pistons. Pull heads and scrape/brush um clean. put back together. It worked for me many times. Don't forget the head gaskets. Wouldn't hurt to run some BG though it.

Is it gasoline or propane?

Since it ran the weekend before, not knowing the model.

You can hold most start buttons and get a reading off the back of the fuse panel to see if your getting AC voltage out, given your are generating for 120v, fuse blocks normally have the 4 wires back there, m1, m2 m3 m4. depending on how the wires are tied in is what gives you either or 240/120.

Ground, black lead to the motor, red lead to output of fuse, meter to read VAC, should show voltage, if not, windings are open, if some votage is there, then mostly likely, its the exciter circuit, check the brushes to see if they are worn down.

hope that helps

its gasoline. yeah I guess I'm gonna have to take a meter out there and see if I'm getting 12vdc to the voltage regulator. from researching on the net the regulator may have went out. I almost wanna just break down and buy a portable generator thats more effecient but the onan's are suppose to last forever..
