Hi to all,

It seems to me I have purchased just about everything of value on time---cars, trucks- real estate. I am wondering if there is a reliable (established) business out there where I can buy some exotics for breeding by making a monthly payment for say 24 to 30 months? Species that presently interest me:

Gemsbok x Oryx sp. hybrids
Eland

This is a serious inquiry. I get alot done and often save money in the long run by such arrangements. Thanks for looking, Mike

I doubt if you could find that type of deal but I may be wrong. When you buy the items you listed on time the lender has something he can get back if you don't pay. What if you bought those animals and they died or got loose and ran off. There would be nothing they could get back from you if you decided not to pay. Another thing everyone I now that trades in exotics has to buy the animals he sells and the profit margin after trapping and hauling is not that great and none of them are independently wealthy and need their money at the time on delivery.

I'm with Don.....I think you'll be hard-pressed to find someone willing to do that.

Maybe some pioneering could be done here if this is not a common practice in the Exotics business. I am not necessarily talking about buying an existing animal, the biological clock is already ticking there, nobody would want to be responsible for an animal "on layaway", protecting it or feeding it. I am talking about paying into an account on an animal that probably hasnt been born yet. The seller is getting advance payment on their animals, collecting interest on that money as well. I would like to be able to show up in 24 months when the breeder has animals to sell. look them over, if I buy Im already paid up. I would only enter into such a contract with a breeder who has been around for a while and has a reputation for consistency...again I say if I can interest somebody please let me know..I dont think the details are very devilish to figure out...who knows I might even be starting a slight shift in the way sales are done in the future....the shape of things to come? thanks..Mike

Maybe I'm slow or missing something, but why would you do this & pay interest on something you wouldn't take possession of for another 2 yrs?

Seems financially more sound to just go to the bank, borrow the $ & pay the principal/interest off w/in 2 yrs w/ the profit made over the 2yr period, or take the loss your 1040 schedule F?

Several banks offer farm operating loans w/ reasonable payment terms/rates.
