I would never, ever, shoot 'em like that because they have too much plumage, it takes too many shots and folks yell at ya when you do that. Not that I would know.

Blues just never seem to take flight, and when they are on the ground they are travelling at the speed of light. I have no qualms shooting them on the ground, but even then realistically, one may just get one or two out of the covey. I feel as long as it's legal, then one is ok, imo.

Can't say I have seen many Bobs, so not too sure how I would go about them.

I don't even shoot doubles anymore, but you're paying for the quail. You can shoot yours anyway you like.

Anyone thats shoots Quail on the ground should have his gun melted and the hot metal pored in his boots. That is a no-no a thousand times over.

If you were hunting Blues without the aid of dogs and you DID Not shoot at them on the ground you probably would come home with no quail. If you used dogs they would probably be confused and looking at you like, "Hey these things don't stop??? Am I just supposed to keep running after them?"

Without dogs I shoot them anyway I can. Roy knows hes opening up a can of worms that has literally ended in war here on the forum! There are no winners in this discussion but......... you ain't got any hair on your b---s if you shoot a bird on the ground. Period!!! Theres no excuse for doing it I don't care who you are. My outfitter hunts blues and scaled quail a lot and he will send someone packin' if he catches them doing it even on a paid hunt and refunds their money!!

Theres just some things that you just don't do!! Let me add one other thing. This is how I was raised and the man that taught me to respect the game I took was my grandfather. In his opinion he thought that if you shoot anything other than a snake on the ground you were either hungry, which I doubt any of you all are, or you were just plain greedy!!

Thanks Cool_Hand, this thread is getting embrrassing. And contrary to what Bill believes (you're paying for the quail. You can shoot yours anyway you like.) Your paying for the privilege to hunt and that means something more than arkansasing a covey of quail.

This topic always cracks me up.
Personally if its pheasants or Quail regardless of species I could care less how you shoot them...Unless my dog or a dog is around, then you better let them get some blue sky under them.
I know guys that refuse to hunt crop circles for pheasants..and will only hunt CRP or the rough grass stuff.. Cool what ever floats your boat. These are also the same guys that will damn near kill their dogs chasing blues for miles.
I know several old ranchers that shoot pheasants with a 22. They own the land and eat them, so they can do what ever they want IMO.
Some times I thing the elitest/purests do more damage to hunting then the outlaws. I have never look down on any one for how they hunt their game, not my place

When a covey bunches up into a big ball of birds in the middle of the gravel bed, take your deer rifle(any caliber), aim at the BASE of the covey and fire. You would be suprised at the carnage. I have NOT done this personally, but it was the advise from someone who did. He say that he picked up enough for a GOOD supper. LOL!

I would never take a skillet shot, just ask Cool_Hand, we've had this discussion before! He put a wennie dog in my bunk last time.
