I am thinking of getting a box of these and loading up for an AR. I do not have a speer loading manual and was wondering if anyone had one. I have benchmark and varget on hand. Any help or personal experience with these bullets would be appreciated.

I have used that bullet for deer before in a 22-250, accuracy was pretty good and it preformed well on the deer we shot with it. The data you are looking for is available on the Hodgdon reloading data webpage for that bullet and the powder you have. http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

thanks kmon, i will update the results. I thing I will start with the varget. What twist is your 22-250. I have one in 1:12 did not know if that would be to slow of a twist for that round.

I started using the 70 gr. Speer when it came out around 1970. Loaded it in 219 Zipper because it has semi round nose and the Marlin lever action had tubular mag. Later loaded in 22-250 it shot good in all rifles when loaded as hot as the rifle could stand. Problem is the low ballistic coefficient. Lot of drop at longer range, especially with .223 with less than 3000 fps. If your AR has 1:9 twist, consider the 65 gr. Sierra Gameking. You can get close to 3000 fps if you have 22 inch barrel. I have killed better than 30 pigs with the 65 gr, some better than 200 yds and never had a problem

I picked some up during the week. Going to load some up this week and go to the range. My shots this year will be 150 yards at most and want to shoot pigs in the head with them. My AR is 1:8 twist so hopefully it will shoot good. If not I will go try the Sierra's next.

went to the range with the 70 gr speer and 55 gr hornady sp. I loaded the speers and worked up to max load of varget. Groups were around 1.5" at 100 yards.
The Hornady's on the otherhand consitenly were under .75" at 100 yards. I was using benchmark with these.

Tried the 70 gr in my 788 and they were ok, but I switched to the 55 gr nosler ballistic tip and the group was 1/2" at 100, so I am sticking with them.
