I've done this on deer and it really works.
Has anyone tried this on a hog.
I have my doubts it would work, but maybe someone has worked it out.

Heard of it using a rock but not a golfball.

The beauty of the Second Ammendment is it won't be needed until they try and take it.

+1 on deer but never a hog. Let us know if you try it.

it will work on hogs just a little more cutting around the legs and make sure you tie it very good and it will rip right off

I have only used rocks but it works well. We have elrctric hoist and tie off to eye bolts in the slab of cleaning rack

Hey Montana, apparently you tie a golfball into the hide, attatch to a rope, attatch said rope to the bumper of a truck and pull...hence golf ball skinning. hope this helps

I've done it with deer, used a golf ball, some rope a strong tree limb and a truck. Works slicker than a whistle.
Deer and hogs ain't the same.
Deer have relatively loose, pliable hide.
A wild hot, especially a large boar hog, has a thick cartilage "shield" in his shoulder region.
I have not tried it yet, but I will next chance I get. I was thinking it might work better on a large boar hog, if you didn't gut him first. Instead, maybe if you took a large bladed knife, and made a long deep slice down his back, from tail to just behind his neck. Then work some skin loose, and using a rock, brick, whatever, tie on to the skin UNDER his neck.
Then put the truck in 4WD, low range, and see if it works.

It is very difficult to skin a hog (a mature hog) any way other than cutting the hide off. Small piglets (50-60 lbs) are even tough to pull the hide off but it can be done. Lots of luck with the golf ball idea.

use an air compressor.

cut a little hole through the hide and stick air gun in, blow it up like a balloon, then skin it.

this will separate all of the connective tissue from the hide.

It works pretty good on hogs under 150 pounds we did it to one about 200 pounds and started tearing it in half.

Unless you're wanting to cook it whole..why skin it? Cut a slit down the spine to remove the backstraps, then cut two slits-one on each side of the front quarter, skin only the quarter and then cut it out. Next skin the back quarter and cut till you get down to the socket for the legbone, cut the tendon and pull that whole quarter off. Flip, the hog, repeat...quick and no skinning! The only loss is the tenderloins inside but you can get those too if you're CAREFUL!

Know a rancher who tried it on a big hog, and said he almost ripped the rafters out of his barn!

What do ya mean, "might be" ?
I tried the golf ball way, Saturday morning. Had to do some experimenting. The golf ball way didn't work out to well.
I cut the skin all the way around his neck, and skinned him down to the upper part of the shoulder.
I had already gutted it.
Just could not tie it all together tight enough. The rope just slipped over the hide.
So I cut two holes in the hide, ran some rope through both holes and tied it real tight. Rope tore through the hide.
OK.
So I decided to pull the skin off in halves.
I made a long cut down his back, just following his back bone, all the way down.
I cut off the lower portion of each leg.
I cut 3 holes into the loose skin at the base of the neck and shoulder, ran the rope through all 3 holes, tied it real good.
With a polaris ranger, it pulled the hide right off !!!
I repeated this with the other half, skinned him clean.
It took a little experimentin, but it finally worked.
