Never done it, want to do it. Can someone tell me what a good set up would be and the best way to get into it when you have zero experience?

All the reloading companies make pretty good stuff. I use Lee Precision for everything but the scale and have been very happy with their stuff.

If you can find someone locally who reloads; that's the first place I would start. Ask them if you can come watch or help out. It's always nice to have a hand with case prep and stuff like that. That's how I got started, helping a buddy out with his reloading until I had the basics down.

If you don't have somebody close by to show you, I would start with a reloading manual or two. Not sure about the others, but I know the Lee book basically takes you step by step through the process. Knowing the process will also help you decide which equipment/extras you might want to buy.

Good Luck, and don't get discouraged. Prepare for a wallet beating up front. I love reloading and will never go back.

The first step, go buy a loading manual or two. they will have a tutorial section in the front that will explain the reloading process. Read this a few times and get familiar with the processes involved. Then, if you still want to dive in, go get a kit from one of the reloading companies out there. Lee will be the cheapest by a long shot. Nothing wrong with most Lee stuff. i have some of their stuff and some of others' equipment as well. But Hornady, RCBS, Redding, Lee, Lyman, Dillon, it's all good stuff. I prefer Redding for dies, and RCBS for most other stuff. But that's me, no doubt it's a personal preference thing.

2) Buy a Dillon press.

3) Buy a Dillon press.

4) Get yourself several thousand hard cast bullets - for pistol loads, primers, some powder, and some fired brass.

5) Go shoot!

6) Repeat #4 & #5.

HAVE FUN!

What are you interested in reloading? if Shotgun get a Lyman manual. If rifle or pistol there are several good ones, about all component manufacturesd have good manuals.

I am not sure where you live but the advice of finding some one experienced at it to assist you is very good advice. THat is how I got started over 30 years ago

Or a Lee, or RCBS..they are all good. Study your load manuals from cover to cover. The most important thing is safety.

#1 is reading a good manual like already said. If you don't like reading it without having the equipment to look at, buy a kit.

Get bunch of ammo boxes and a label printer. You want to keep all different types of reloads separate and well marked, otherwise you will be disassembling lots of ammo when you can't be sure of what kind of load it is.

Before buying any components (bullets, powder etc), read the manual and then decide on what components you want to use. One thing the kits are missing is tools to measure case length and shorten them. A must have items.

If you post your location maybe someone local to you is willing to help you get started. I am sure some could use help prepping cases... smile

Before you spend anything on equipment, read this and then you'll have a decent understanding of what you need to best suit your purposes. Good used equipment can be found on ebay and craigslist for a fraction of what is costs new.

Dillon Presses Resale for almost what you pay for them new.

Why? LIFETIME, NO BS WARRANTY, even if you ain't the original purchaser.

Dillon stuff is definitely top-notch, but I don't think a beginner should go that route right off the bat. Start out with basic stuff at first to see if you really want to pursue the hobby, and get some experience under your belt. If you are then sure you want to pursue it and you want to do high-volume reloading, then by all means take a look at Dillon's stuff.

If I was a high-volume handgun shooter, I'd probably have a Dillon myself. But then again...if I had a Dillon, maybe I'd be a high-volume handgun shooter!
