I'm getting myself prepared for Oct.2 and have a question for all you bow hunters. I am using muzzy fixed blades at the moment, but have been considering mechanicals. I have heard both good and bad about them and was wondering what opinions (good or bad) some of you had. I have narrowed my mechanical search interest to the "shwacker" and the "rage". Are either worth all the hype/price? I priced some over the holiday and they were pretty expensive for a 3-pack. Comments?.....Shark.

I didn't know you had to be uppity to be a bow hunter. I guess some just like to hunt in both seasons.

If your bow shoots muzzys with consistent accuracy, you can't go wrong. I shoot the 4 blade muzzy 100 grain and they are ultrasharp and tough and I haven't lost a deer with them yet. Some people bash muzzys cause they don't fly as accurate as their fieldtips. My matthews shoots them the same as my field tips. I highly reccomend them...and they are about half the price of the others.

I shot a hog last year to test out a 2 blade rage broadhead and it bled like crazy and ran only 25 yards before crashing. Not sure if I trust them with a trophy buck. Don't fix what ain't broke is what I've learned w/ broadheads, stick to muzzy's in my opinion.

post this over in the bow hunting forum and you will get about 3 pages of the rage vs. muzzy debate. I agree w/ soul harvester however, if you find something that works stick with it.

Love the Rage two blade, shoots straight from my bow and has a great trail. But like said earlier, whatever shoots best usually kills best.

I shoot both. The Muzzy 100 grain three blade does not shoot in as tight of groups at 40 yds compared to the Rage. Anything under 40 yards, the Muzzy shoots as accurate as the Rage.

I like to shoot the Muzzys at hogs, but I do prefer the Rage two blade for Whitetail only because I may take a 40 or 45 yard shot when Whitetail hunting (don't want to, but I have had to a few times). I always trust my Rages to fly very true.

Mathews Z7 Bow for Whitetail and Hogs
Remington R-15 .223 REM for predators
I also like to "hunt" sporting clays with my Benelli SuperSport!

I've never seen, or heard of, a fixed blade head that failed to open. Just sayin'.

You will not go wrong with the G5 T3. Best mechanical broad head on the market. Or the Tekan. I've shot rages. They blow a huge hole but they come open easily if their hit. The t3 doesn't have any O rings. They have a spider retention clip. And it's adjustable. But I love muzzys too.

I personally use 125 Grain Muzzy Broadheads. Why? Because for 35 bucks I get 6 of them vs getting 3 of most other brands. And they work well with my bow.

Its like talking to someone which is better, Carbon Fiber Arrow Shafts vs Aluminum. Everyone has their opinion.

I personally rather keep the costs down so I use Muzzy Broadheads, and Aluminum Arrows. (I still kill deer with them.) And everytime I let a arrow go, there goes 10 bucks down range. Some of my hunting buddies use different broadheads and shafts and everytime they let go of the release, there goes 15-20 dollars down range.

Personally with my luck I dont want to use mechanical. If there's a chance that it wont open, it will happen to me. I try to take all the variables I can out to maximize my sucess rate.

I had some issues with the rage 2 blade last year, not opening. Found out there was a recall on some of the older ones. Got them swapped and they are brutal. I'm going with some of the new wieght forward arrows this year for better penetration though. Any head will work when put in the right place, none will in the wrong. The rage sure makes trailing easier though.

Dozer, mulched, and trackhoe work. Fencelines, senderos, tanks. Let me know if I can help with any dirtwork or construction.

If Muzzys work, why would you consider anything else. IMHO Muzzy's are like 1911's, you simply cannot improve on perfection.

When I shoot a fixed blade, I shoot the 4 blade Muzzy's, Slick Trick's, or the G5 Montec's. All are great broadheads in my opinion and my bow shoots all 3 VERY well. However, I prefer the 2 blade Rage. They are simply lethal. Just like the commercial says "It's like throwing an axe through and animal". It couldn't be more true. Blood is everywhere.
