Ok Gents,

I am going to Alberta the week of Thanksgiving. What type of Coats and gloves do you suggest? I have a pair of very warm boots and a set of wool bibs. I just don't know what brand of a coat would be best. Thank you for your response

I hunted on the coldest opening weekend in recorded history and it was cold for a South Texan and then the next year on Thanksgiving and it was not nearly as cold. The wind on the eastern side seems to blow a lot. So look at the weather before you go. Take lots of layers. That way you can take it off if you do not need it. My hands and feet were what got me the coldest. What are you hunting for and what area? The first time you see a sign that say's "Texas Gate" it will make you think I am not in the right place...it is a cattle guard..lol.

If price is not a issue then i would checkout king of the mountain hunting cloes. I beleave u can tpe in Kingof the mountain hunting cloths an u should get some websites to go to. Or u could check into a heater body suit.www. Heaterbodysuit.com.

U can not go wrong with either one of those in my opinion. Weather up there can b brutal. Havin the rght gear can make or break a hunt up there.

Mule or Whitetail? I hunted 160 and 162 for Mule Deer in the praire country and it was a blast. The running joke with my outfitter was that in order to be a guide up there all that you needed was a faster truck than the other guides. But he earned his pay as an outfitter as he was the best preseason scouting man I have come across. He had the big deer located and all we had to do was find one before someone esle did.

Whitetail. That guide sounds like the one I am going with. I have hunted bear with him twice. He is does alot of scouting and knows all the landowners in the area.I am sure thats true about a fast pickup.
Bearman I am going with the bodysuit. Thank you

Just make sure his heater is working and he has heat in the your passenger seat! When I hunted it was only a 3 day zone, what is yours 6 days?

That helps your odds a lot with 10 days. Which part of Alberta or the closest big city? Will you be blind hunting or truck hunting? I saw some really great whitetails in the area I was hunting Mule Deer. They supposedly had killed a 200" nontypical with a bow in the area archery only area outside the town I stayed in my second year. Those whitetails are very large bodied.

Haven't hunted there but have driven through, Beautiful area and saw some good bucks from the hwy.

You just never know what the weather will be. I have hunted north central Montana numerous times and you just never know. Weel hunt one year I shout out early in the week and fished wearing jeans and a Tshirt the reat of the week, Anoither year it did not get above 0 degrees until the 6th day of the hunt.

I imagine you are going to be packing light as you can, Check the weather before you go. Prep ahead of time for layering, sounds like you have a good start for cold. I have become a fan of the base layer being one containing the silver thread material reducing odar a lot. First trip to Montana in 1997 I bought a set of Browning Hydro Fleece and still use it. THere are many other good products out there now,

If I were going
Base layer of silver thread material, Keep odar down
midweight layer something like UA cold weather gear or fleece thermals.
sounds like you have a good set of cold weather thermals.
standard weight hunting cloths large enough to be comfortable in with teh above layers on
Your heavy set of outerwear I do not know if those are waterproof or not, if not include a good rain suit.

A mid weight jacket
Don't forget socks good thick ones Woo
I used the shooting miottens with pocuh for chemical hand warmers on that cold trip and they worled great.
Plenty of handwarmers

I can tell you from sitting in 8 inches of snow for 4 hours at -5 degrees when that snow melts from the bosy heat and refreezes you can have a cold backside. In the hydrea fleece I had no problem guy I was with in wool outer layer was shivering when we got up.

Good luck with the hunt I am sure you will have fun and there are some huge bodied deer in that area
