a dressed deer around 200 is a big sob. One of these days you'll connect with a big 8pt

Hopefully sooner then later on the 8... its eating me up in the inside. Its one thing to dream about one but when you actually see one.. That frame just makes everything else look like small potatos. I don't think I have had buck fever that bad since my first buck I ever shot. I seen some big 10's and 11's and one 12 That score wise take him by 10-20 inches but none with a frame like that.

That's funny because I held up a pair of sheds from a 10 that I found this year. Put them up to the 8 I shot last year, and told my wife they scored the same. "But your's is so much bigger." (I know, that's what she said) I'd rather have a big 8 over a similar scoring 10 or 12 any day.

Hopefully that 10 has put on an inch on every tine, added a bit of mass, and in the mid 150s right now. rifle deer2

I'm sure when I see one like that I'm not going to give myself time to get any sort of fever. Watching one come in w/ a bow in my hand would probably be a different story.

Passed up some pretty good bucks the year these pics were taken, didn't get him but did pass on a shot on him about 10 minutes after shootingtime when walking back to the truck one afternoon.

But your cheating because you can pass on bucks and don't have to worry about your neighbors killing them violin grin

Also it's better if the deer surprises you. Definitely more of a trophy that way.

One thing I like about hunting a low fence is if somehow I kill one that scores 170+ I can put him in the book, I am pretty sure high fence deer cant get in the book. I may be wrong but think I have read that.

You can put one in for archery if your HF ranch is over 640 acres in size.

Stxranchman, I am not a big bow hunter and I stand to be corrected, but I don't see anything on the Pope and Young website which is consistent with your comment. To the contrary, it is their position that taking an animal "while inside escape-proof fenced enclosures" is not considered fair chase.

I am not an archery hunter either but I seem to remember someone telling me years ago back in the 90's that The Boone and Crockett club allowed them on ranches over a certain acreage for archery entries. I might be wrong but I do remember being told this.

Have to agree with toe on this one. I'm pretty sure deer taken from within a game proof enclosure are not book eligible, regardless of property size or harvest method.

Very ignorant comment and very obvious you've never hunted a 'real' HF ranch! Also very obvious you've never hunted a great LF ranch as well! LMFAO I know a place I could go this afternoon if the season was open, and the owner let me of course, and kill a 170+ buck, with a bow, and have time to process him before I went to bed. Because this is a LF place, does that make it any more challenging then a HF, well managed ranch! rofl

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

OMG is that thing part MOOSE!? And probably part Muley as he has some forks!

You could hang that next to the ones in a BPS store....

everyone needs to get a big one... might make it less tempting to pull the trigger on a 5yr old or less.... nidea
