Went out to my Grandparents ranch the other day a internet company put a tower out on his land. Anyways someone that workes for them came out there and when he locked the gate he locked us out. I called the company to get the combo for there lock they told me they could not give it to me they need to talk to the land owner. My grandad called and they told him they couldn't give him the combo either.

Yeah, if their lock is on a chain, just cut a link out of the chain a few inches away and add your lock in it's place.

It's actually illegal for them to lock you out of your own property, though it's a law that is rarely enforced (I'm not a lawyer or a cop, but that's what I was once told).

What I'd like to do (won't say I'd actually do it) is to cut out a link and put on my own lock. While buying my own lock, I'd also buy some super glue, then apply that to their lock while installing my own lock.

Might make them think twice about locking you out again.

They should not have done that. It is very common to see a chain with three or four links cut out and different locks on it. That way it works for everyone.

They can NOT lock you out of your own property. Its their job to establish a fence AROUND the base of the tower, in which they can legally lock but NO they can not lock you out of your property. Cut it & put you lock back on.

Bolt cutters for sure. For their mistake it would cost them a new lock. The people who actually lock it may never even know anything was wrong if you just cut a link out. I would leave them a note as well.

No big problem. It happens all the time. Usually by accident. Cut a link out and insert your lock. I carry a set of bolt cutters in each truck. Pipelines, oil companies, power companies, my hunters, etc. all have separate locks. A construction crew or a clean-up crew comes through and adds their locks.Often finish the job and leave their lock. When the gates begin to get loaded up with locks, I just pull everything off and replace it with a shiney new chain and lock them out. They cut the link and move their lock over to the new chain. I have a pretty good collection of dead locks that were never claimed. Sorta like changing your password ever once in awhile. I did lock a power company bucket truck IN the ranch once. They left a highwat gate open. Locked them in and they had to cut their way out. Got their attention.

Yep, its real common along pipelines too. Our place has at least three or 4 locks daisy chained together so that they all work. About once a year, someone will forget their coffee one morning and lock everyone else out.
