Got this pic the other day from my game cam. What the heck would you classify that deer as? I have never seen this animal before in prior seasons. The pic doesn't adequately show how strange the rack is. Would this be genetices or physical damage suffered? Need a little help. Any suggestions?

Agreed, but with the new antler restrictions would he be classified as a nonshooter based upon the fact that he has branch antlers within the ears? I am bum fuggled on this one. Kinda hacks me off that I may have to waste a buck tag on this turd.

with the antler restrictions he has to have atleast one unbranched antler or an inside spread of 13 inches or greater

From other photos, it looks as if all of the beams orginate from the base of the horns and don't branch off either main beam. I will have to get better photos of him in order to tell. It is the ugliest rack I have ever seen. Looks like something my son should take care of.

Good Lord Man!! Are you implying that I would have to look at that rack mounted on the wall for the rest of my existence??? Shoot me NOW!!! If it puts a smile on my boys face then it will be worth it all. Kids are the best.

With the way that thing has horns coming out of everywhere, he may be a 20 pointer by the time the velvet is shed. We could keep the whole family's ball caps hanging from that one mount!!! deer2

Could it be a yearling cactus buck.....? Looks like he's really been rubbing his nose. Neat find.

Probably just going to be antler damage from much earlier in the growing season. I will be he will not look anything like that next year. Lots of antler misconfigurations are caused by trauma or an injury to a leg also. I do not think it is genetic.

Catus buck....He can't breed, wont ever loose his velvet. His nuts will be the size of rasins, Let the kid shoot him.

There is about a 90% chance you will not have a deer that looks like than next year. He will get better or he won't and will die. Either way it isn't genetic and he shouldn't be a "cull"

This is most likely a STAG. He cannot breed. His testicles are likely the size of peas. You can confirm this if you see him running with does. He will act just like a doe, with no interest in chasing does. There is no rush to take him out, and he will never lose his velvet.

LOL. Didn't read your post first. Yep, we let the kids shoot em. My brother shot a pretty gnarly one a couple years ago. The thing probably had 6-7 inch bases.

Let him grow until he's 6 or 7 yr. old. he might be a Catus Buck with 20 or 30 pointer with 3 to 4 drop tines. Then you would be prould to hang it on the wall. :))

Yep, I'd let him walk & see what he turned into in about 4 more years............. I've seen a 205 inch monster killed ........ that was like that as a young'un.

What do you have to lose, by letting him walk?

By the way, I agree that he is most likely a non-breeder due to lack of testicles.

If he stays in velvet and never sheds, then his antlers will keep growing as well!

Think about that!

If he doesn't shed his velvet he's a stag... all these people saying that he is "probably" a stag are jumping the gun a little IMO...

There are a lot of things that can cause that kind of antler growth... being a stag is one of the least likely.

Not in the Hill Country. VERY common. We usually kill one a year on our place. Depends on where the TS hunts. I've never seen one in South Texas before, though.
