Are there any Remington 870 models to stay away from?

I have seen a few negative posts about the "newer" model 870 express but none of those posts are very specific about year model, so that would be a few out of ten million. They are the salt of the earth as far as I am concerned, best-selling shotgun in the history of the world.

ndhunter is absoluely correct. There are more 870s sold than every other shotgun combined. You don't have that kind of sales and reputation if your product is substandard. Its nickname "The Legend" is well deserved. I only have one complaint about mine and that every once in a while it seems not not hit the bird I'm shooting at... not sure what the problem is, but it has to be the gun as I am a perfect shot!

The teflon finish on the Express guns is not good. They rust almost as fast as bare steel. Early Express guns were ugly but reliable. Remington's quality of late leaves a lot to be desired. I would look for a vintage Wingmaster. They are the finest pump gun made in my opinion.

I've got an old wingmaster and a new express and as long as you clean them after each use you should have no problems with rust or anything like that. I personally like the wingmaster better only because the action is smoother but that's just because how many times its been used.

I have a 870 that is over 50 years old still looks new and shoots like new and in my opinon better than any other pump on the market including new 870.
