After being on here a while, I decided this would stir the pot. I am wondering if members on here actually have hunted for whatever species of game, they give their opions on. Reason I ask??? In the past I have had 2 or 3 and one now on a regular basis give me opions on hunts, as to pricing, how to hunt that species ect. What this person based "their" findings on was, well the good ole internet. It was not from real hand on expierence type hunting. They read what some outdoor writer puts on the net, and they figure it should work for all of us, and thus I guess they can take some creditability on the subject. I am not sure why do this. Knowledge is power, and I am all for reading and brushing up on how to hunt from magazines and books, which I do myslef. Now actually hunting and having been there before on the hunting playing field, is a whole new thing. Some things work well with some type of hunting, others wont. This may be in part to hunter expierence, geographical terrain ect. Some guys have hunted all or most of their lives. I have talked to a few, and find them knowledgable, and that they have hunted numerous species. Some may claim to have hunted all their lives, but can't bs thier way out of a story to save their lives. There are some things in my life I have never done. One that comes to mind was feral hog hunting. I finally had the pleasure of doing that, but knew very little of it. I have never hunted ducks, geese ect. It doesn't move me to get out there and try that type of hunting, so I have no knowledge of it. I guess the hunts I love the most are for deer, turkey, dove, quail, varmits and even Javelina. I can say I have hunted them in the past years, and still activley pursuit them. Am I an expert in those fields of hunting???? By no means. I just enjoy the thrill of the hunts, and as I go along I gather, and have gathered more knowlege. It may be from my personal expierences, or knowing someone that has been there done that. I think the net is great, but some things can only be done on the actual playing field. So are you a Coca Cola hunter or????

I'm tying to watch my girlish figure, diet coke and Jim Beam for me.

I've been hunting and fishing with people who acted like they knew what they were doing, but in reality, they didn't know. I think by the very nature of all forums, you meet a lot of those people.

True js, but there are some guys who are just now getting into the sport. Those I can live with, the ones who don't have to try and their way through it all. Hope this makes sense.

I know what your saying. I spent a lot of time on the fishing forum before I came to the hunting forum. I guess I'm just used to the fish stories.

Yes I only give my opinons on the type of game that I have actually hunted in the past and the only time I will give it is when I am asked for my opinon. To try and your way and force your opinons on someone when you have not expierence for yourself will most of the time make you look foolish. Now for the internet. The net is a good place to do research and gather information thats great but what someone puts on the net is their opinon and should be veiw as that. It might work for them but may not work for others.
You asked and that my opinon.

Good show Wiley, I'm sitting here sipping straight stuff myself. I'm a member of other forums and even went to a picnic of forum members who turned out to be bunch of stuck-up-know-it-all-yuppies who will tell you all there is to know on the computer but who clam up when face to face.

Well, I haven't been here nearly as long as you but I'll stir the pot the other direction. Was there a purpose to this post other than a little wine and cheese?

Kinda like Semi auto weapons (AR15 ect) arn't they assault weapons??? Or at least thats' what I read on the net

I can see part of the reason for 7mags post. It is one thing for a person that has done something even one time to talk about their experience, after having done that thing.

It is something completely different for someone that has only read about doing that same thing, either in magazines or on the internet, but has never actually participated in the event, to start spouting knowledge and advice.

Having someone that has no actual experience in hunting any specific animal, trying to tell folks how things should be done, does make them look like a fool.

My question is where does Heineken stand in this hunter comparison question????

I like this post. I think what we need to remember is that people’s comments are their opinions. And opinions are like butts, everyone has one. Some are just bigger then others. Hey, no one mentioned rum and coke.

Why are you still talking, I stopped listening a long time ago!!

I think we have a winner.

Roy,
Funny you brought this up. This guy wins my vote for the Coca-Cola hunter of the year.

I think he Shot himself in the foot with a bullet he borrowed.
With a borrowed gun that he claimed was his.
With no out of state hunting Licenses.
Has never had a hunting licenses in any of the states he lived in.
Fell in with the Brady whacko’s and then flip flopped there.
Then joined NRA as life member.
He looks more like Jed Clampett every day.
I think they reached the bottom of the barrel with this one.

Funny. That was in the Dallas Morning News Friday. I thought about that Romney when I read this. He really couldn't BS his way out of a how to load a gun probably.

Being from Texas, I am a Dr. Pepper hunter and Shiner drinker. Not one of them Georgia Cola people. I ain't going to comment on something unless I have experience doing it. So if you see me talking about anything outside of deer, turkey, predators, hogs, rabbits, ducks, dove, quail, pheasant, snakes, mushrooms then don't listen to me caz I only read about it in my favorite Texas Trophy Hunter mag.

I thought it would be fun to use a helicopter to hunt the javelina Roy!

I don’t guess I’m a good enough hunter to recognize the “Coca-Cola” hunter posts on here. But I think I know enough about firearms in general to recognize plenty of “Coca-Cola” shooters posting in the “Rifles, Shotguns & Handguns” section.

Between me and my brother, we know everything! But he knows more than me.

Nature of the beast. It is a "forum" and everyone likes to post something. You can learn something from everyone, even if it is the "wrong" way to do something. (Ha! Ha!)

Up until 11 years ago I had never hunted muledeer but I got the opportunity to hunt them and I went. I read everything I could find on hunting the desert species but I didn't really learn anything until I talked with people who had been hunting them for years. They basically told me to forget evrything I knew about hunting whitetails because if I applied the same principals I would not put a tag on a good deer. They were right. Now that I have several years of hunting mulies under my feet, I apply not only my successes but my failures to each hunt. I'm still learning but I now see more deer because I know where to look and how to see.
