I have a feeder that I bought at Bass pro shop a couple of years ago. I beleive it was called a sun tracker anyway it has a solar panen on one end of the timer housing. I have not seen a varmet cage to fit it. I filled it up a week-ago and went back Friday morning and it is empty, Lesson learned I will have to come up with something that will work before I put any more corn in it. Does anyone else have this type of feeder ?

Check with Academy, they have one that seems to be universal. It bolts on then has one side to come down to adjust set the timer.

I had a guy give me a feeder that he bought at Bass Pro too. The timer box is a long rectangle, and you right its a pain to cover, I ended up making my own out of wire. It sure is an odd design if its the same one I got.

Yeah that's sounds like the one I have. I guess I'll just have to try to make something. Thanks

I have had one of those type feeders. It was called SunSlinger and yes, it's very hard to find a cage that will cover it. I made my own.

Go to a driving range and sweet talk them out of a jumbo basket. That should do the trick!

The pvc doesnt always work. A custom made one is your best choice. Most store ones are terrible.

if your motor has a 1/4 inch shaft just put one of those new spinner plates on there and you won't have to worry about a varmint cage ever again. Saw them at the Houston show a couple weeks ago and bought one to try. It works so good I am am about to buy a few more. I will make my money back up in corn saved in no time. I had the spintech plates and motors and everyone I had either never worked right or soon broke and the company wasn't very customer service oriented. The plates didn't throw well and this new one I got is just a plate, throws good and really seems to work great and is built well. Got mine at the elusive wildlife booth at the hunters extravaganza.

Headhunter, you got a picture of that spinner plate? Does it have flaps or how does it keep the coons out? I currently have a 12v hot wire around my feeder legs but when the batteries go dead the coons come to the buffet.

I need to order some more anyway so I found there site and I am posting a link to the plate I am talking about. It works off of the centrifical force when the motor spins and it drops down and then seals back up against the funnel when it stops spinning and you can't get into it. Absolutley genius design and it works awesome! I am about to put up a bunch more feeders out this year now once I get these plates put on so I can try and hold the deer better and still use less corn than before.

I made my own and they have worked well for years. If I remember correctly I used 3/4 inch welded wire and J clips. Made the cage the same size as the barrel with a bottom in it. Made it fit up a couple inches around the bottom of the barrel and attached with pipe strap. I have not had an issue with coons since. I have my mechanism and solar charger inside the cage.

Another option is to put carpet tack strip on your feeder legs. We did this a couple years ago and it worked like a charm. The only downfall is you have to replace them every couple of years.

I went to Home Depot and bought a heavy duty wire shelf. They are 8' x 16". Cut it into 5 16" pieces and wire together. I had an extra piece laying around, so I cut a hole in the front and put a door on mine for feeder access. I use 4 metal cable straps to secure it to the bottom of the barrel. No more coon problems for me.

I have a feeder that I put the schedule 40 4" PVC tubes about 3' long over the legs and hung them from light chain 16 years ago. The spincaster abs feeder unit does not have a scratch or bite mark on it. They work great.
Wire cages just give the varmits something to hold onto while they reach through and wreck your feeder and wires to your solar panel. IMHO

Not very well...

He made it to the top. I even had WD-40 sprayed on that one. Best thing is to rifle.
