The monster muley post got me to thinking. Is it just me or does anyone else find velvet antlers ugly?

I don't care for them at all. I have heard of people going to extremes to preserve the velvet on their early season kills. Not me...I like 'em polished and the darker the better.

Gotta agree with ya. Velvet antlers don't do much for me. Symmetrical, heavy, wide, and dark dark brown gets me going. High tines help alot too.

Velvet does not bother me. I have killed a 10 point mule deer buck with a bow that was in velvet and had it mounted that way. You can really tell a difference in the mass of a deer when the velvet is scraped off. It is like most go from looking really heavy to some being quite spindly antlered.

If I could see a mule deer buck like the one you are talking about, I would not care if it was wearing a pink beret with a matching speedo bathing suit. That was one heck of a mule deer.

I have a set of small caribou antlers that are in velvet. I think they are unique...

I don't like velvet on a mount either, but that dude was a monster!

I love the way velvet looks on live deer.....but I do not want it on a mounted deer.

I guess I am in the minority.

I think it would be awesome on a mount. Very unique.

If I saw it on a mount it would make me wonder if it was poached before the season... Although a few years ago we found a freaky looking buck dead on the side of the road in December in full velvet. It had one huge spike on one side and then a club looking thing on the other with like 10 points sticking off of it.

I think velvet is awesome. Why not on the mount. I love 8 points or what not but ive seen enough of them. Ill take any buck in velvet instead of out

Velvet is cool. I would mount it that way. In fact, I mount would mount a buck however I shot it. If it had a busted brow tine, I wouldn't get it fixed...its not what I shot.

I have an Axis mount where the velvet is halfway hanging off the antlers. Not only do I think it's unique, but it's also pretty gnarly looking! Don't come rub your antlers under my tree stand!
