I've been chasing the elusive hog lease for nearly a year now. Every buddy of mine that has offered me a chance to "shoot those damn pigs tearing up my deer lease" have for one reason or another decided that my help in managing their hog problem isn't required. The problem with the "hog lease" is that you are most times adding another tier of access to property that already is granting hunting rights (birds/deer). grazing rights, oil rights and more. the more I look for a lease the more I appreciate little day hunts offered on this board where I can take my son, shoot some hogs, make some memories without securing a yearlong commitment from anyone. I have spent around $1000 this year to hunt hogs including a night vision hunt with Tactical Hog Control. I have had access to some great properties all over the state. I figured at some point the problem with hogs in Texas would push for more openings to hunt but that hasn't materialized. I will be watching you all to see what, if anything, you find moving forward. If I come across anything during my search I'll let you all know too.

Glad to see this post, I'm in a similar boat. I'm just looking for a place to knock down some hogs and yotes around Denton. Everything is focused on deer and doves. If I can't find a place soon I will resort to what you have done Swede. I don't blame land owners they are just going after the most cash possible.

Depending on the age of your kids, I can tell you about some good experiences so far and one that I still have a bad taste in my mouth about. Positive experiences have far outweighed negative ones.

I found a hog lease but I have to drive 237,783 miles to get to it LOL...
If you can manage to meet someone that owns land or is the head leaser of some deer hunting land that goes a LONG way in having a chance to secure an off-season hog lease.

Well hopefully with all of us actively looking for a lease we might get lucky and stumble across something good. The problem with the day lease is you dont have access to hunt whenever you want. I want a lease so I can have a reason to leave the ole lady at the house!!

I feel like taking out an ad in the personals.... Wanted: an elderly farmer with a TON of farm land and no children of hunting age and with no relatives locally. Must be giving and have a sense of humor. Must be financially secure.

You can hunt public land up at Caddo National Grassland or go down to Lufkin and hunt the WMA. Down south it is open year round. Caddo does have a season.

I would love to hear about some of the daylease places to go and take my son. We have just got into hunting hogs/Varmints with AR's. Big fun as long as we go some place where we can at least see game. Went to one ranch in W. Tx and never saw a thing, in fact other then tweety birds we didn't see a living creature. Not good use of $120 worth of gas and $150 day use fee.
Longtime hunter/shooter/fisherman who loves being outdoors. I used to hunt/compete with my son, but he's now stationed in Germany. Never enough time.

probably better off chasing hogs on public land. plenty to go around and not worth paying the "deer hunting" prices for really.

We are gonna start erradicating some hogs in Taylor county.
The more we study this county problem, the more we learn on what happens if you decide to take matters in your own hands.
If you don't allow the county agent to trap them, then you are not allowed any property relief money that is being given currently to those owners participating.
So now, we need to talk to our property owners in the area and find out what they are doing if anything hog control.
If you don't allow the county to get involved, you are on your own and you can't get the government to do fly over kills.
Theres alot more to this than trying to get all the cash we can.

All I ever did was post signs up at local feed store's in the area I wanted to hunt in and sooner or later, the landowner's call. You can pay for a lease if you want, but there are simply too many landowner's having too many problem's with hogs for you to have to pay to help them.
If you are an upstanding hunter, don't bring friends, relatives, or attempt to run an undisclosed guide service, they are usually more than willing to let you hunt. In my experience though, you need to make a committed effort to help eradicate the hogs off of their land. The casual every other weekend hunter isn't going to do any good. It helps to commit to numerous set-ups, constant communication with the land owner about hog activity, confirmed kills, what you are doing to help them, and at least 1 to 2 hunts a week on their place. If you can throw a trap or two on the place also, it helps as well. Most of the landowners who let me hunt on their land aren't doing it because I'm a nice guy, or they want to help a hunter out with no place to hunt. They want the pigs killed, period.
The signs I post are simple. "FREE Feral Hog Control. Responsible Individual. I Respect The Land. Proven Results. Numerous Local References. No Friends Or Relatives. Will Keep A Watchfull Eye on Property. Call ......."
Once you get on one piece of property and do good. They will communicate with their neighbors about your endeavors and the next thing you know, you'll have 2,3,4 properties to hunt on. Only question is at that point...Do you have the time?....
There's actually (hopefully) an article in next month's BHM talking about this very subject.
(Now, if you are looking for a real trophy boar hunt, then the money you spend to go to the various hog hunting operations are definately worth it. But this is not for the person who is looking at a lease situation.....)
Good Luck!

Did you hunt a baited areas at all? any signs? We have hog problems, I'm looking into solutions. I have asked guys to make offers and they have not made one offer on a post of mine. I'd like to know what the 150.00 fee was for and such. What kind of camp site was offered? Any feedback would be appreciated, if you would like to pm me, that okay, and privacy is no problem. Who knows, maybe I can offer something up for your troubles in the future.

The best hog hunting in Texas is at Lake Granger all is required is a type 2 hunting permit, it is bow only year around and boy are there some hogs around there. Every time you step on that property to hunt bring your boniculars because they lay in the grass during the day and you will walk right up on them or past them and not know they are there. Took many hogs from there it looks like a battle field where they root up acres every where

There are a few folks on here that do that just do an advanced search for hog traps.
