Well said ! With a 22 you really have to be pretty close and when I kill a man I prefer not to get his blood on my sunglasses.

I had to get a concealed weapons permit when I was a boy. I didn't want to get arrested when I was wearing gloves during the winter time. bolt

I have a springfield xd tactical and sure it kicks a bit but its a straight shooter and if it will drop a pig well I dont have to worry about someone getting up.

I like the fact that my 1911 weighs like 6 pounds. it is all steel and feels like you have a real tool in your hand.

If I ran out of bullets I could just beat someone to death with it.

If'n I was gonna carry a .45, I would carry a Glock 36. Should have never got rid of mine.

This could go on and on, but the facts speak for themselves. The 1911 design by John Browning was one of the best if not the best pistol designs ever made. Most polls have the glock rated under Browning's design. It's clear in most competitions the 1911 variants rule the winners circle. Many wars and battles were the testing ground for this simple man stopper. As to hard to shoot-I can take a 3" plain site .45 and hit small metal plates all day long at 100 yards.

My Kimber Pro Carry is just about the coolest 45 I've ever seen. Accurate as any pistol out there in its class. It is a pain in the butt to reassemble after cleaning.

I like the .45 because I love loading for it. I cast my own boolits and load my own ammo, so I prefer to keep just one caliber. My choice is a .45 precisely because I do love the 1911. Nothing feels quite as good in my hand, and I don't shoot anything quite as well.

Not to mention the nostalgia factor. A 1911 LOOKS like a gun. It's a hefty chunk of steel with an endless number of options for customization. I feel very comfortable on man sized targets out to 50 yards with my 1911's, and I regularly practice at that distance.

My summer carry gun is now a Taurus Millenium Pro .45. Some turn their nose at Taurus, but I've never read a bad review of the second generation (pro) milleniums. Mine shoots like a champ, holds 10 rounds, and fits my hand perfectly. It's easy to carry and I feel very confident with it.

I have a Kimber Ultra Carry SS and a Dan Wesson Valor. For me, shooting a nice 1911 is just a blast. I guess I like the feel of a heavy handgun at the range. The 1911 platform is very popular with a lot of manufactures and the platform also lends itself to customization.

I have a Taurus PT1911 that is probably one of my favorite firearms. I really just like the feel of a 1911, and I've never shot a 1911 that wasn't a .45. That being said, I've never carried it, and it will never be my home defense pistol because I prefer having the magazine capacity of my Glock.

I like my 1911's for accuracy, my Sig P220 is very versitile, but for carry I use my Sig P245 which is a compact P220.

Come on Nancy!! Hike up your big boy pants and go with a .45!!

But always remember that the first rule of a gun fight is to have a gun!! Any gun!!! Shoot what you like and shoot best!!

First of all, William Wallace wore a kilt... Totally different than a skirt. Second of all, even if he did wear a skirt and told me that, Id tell him to

Two or three months ago the NRA magazine American Rifleman did a test on a Springfield XDM. They tested the 4.5 inch barrel 45 cal. and the 3.8 inch barrel 40 cal.

They gave the ballistics data with several popular self-defense rounds currently on the market. With every round tested the 40 generated more energy in a shorter barreled gun than the 45. I then got over my “45 itus.”

The way I see it --- with popular 40 cal. polymer framed guns you get more energy per round, more rounds, and a smaller frame gun. The only plus I can see to the 45, (and this was not in the article), is there is probably less of a chance of a pass through shot with the 45.

As far as nostalgia, I agree 1911’s have it. But almost every 1911 I have ever owned was a “jamo-matic.” When it comes to dependability I would trust a modern handgun such as H&K , Glock, XDM, etc.
