Any of you bought waist waders and liked them?

I am thinking about buying a pair of waist breathables and once it gets cooler (I'm cold natured) I'll go to the 5mm 1600 grams chest I already had.

Just wondered because if I am going to wear these early season I figure they will be cooler not being all the way up on my chest.

What says you? wink

Wait till you hit a deep spot and then you will have your answer.

I had a buddy that liked waist/hip waders b/c it gave him an excuse to not have to get out of the boat. Until I intentionally forgot my chest waders at home and he killed a nice Pintail. This was before I had a dog.

I've always thought about them, but I fall in enough as it is with chest waders... not taking that chance with waist highs!

I have a set of waist waders I picked up on clearance years ago, I think I've used them once. Gotta watch them hog wallers

Academy has a cheap pair of real light weight canvas chest waders that are around $40. They are perfect for warm weather teal hunting... and for the price... hard to beat.

I have been in probably 3 situations where hip waders were good enough. Love it when they are. But just not many situations like that. Lakes keep dropping I may have a spot though.

The rice is never more than knee deep - even with the tractor ruts. Like the waist wader so you don't get wet sitting on the bench in the blind.

I only hunt in about 6" - 2' of water and I prefer the waist high waders actually. I found some at gander mountain years ago for only 50 bucks. Not sure what the price is on em now but they were awesome until I tore a big hole in the knee. As long as you get the lightweight breathable you'll stay comfy. It's like wearing a pair of pants but waterproof. Those of you guys who hunt deeper water, I'd defanetly stick to chest waders.

Judd, if you are looking for shallow water waders, I've got the answer:

Hip boots

If you just want some lightweight waders, get the breathable chest waders.

Thanks....I picked up a pair at lunch. They will work perfect for what I was looking for and saved me over a hundred bucks! I had never seen boot foot canvas waders at an Academy but I found them.

I have a set of Cabela's waist waders and love em'. Since we hunt our own place 90% of the time they work great. Not so much if I go somewhere deep, then I take chest. But just the weight alone and not having those straps across your shoulders is enough to keep me in em'. Good luck

Did you get the green magellans for like 44 bucks? I just picked up a pair..seems like they'll be pretty lightweight and tolerable.

They were Hodgman's (sp?) check on the green and check on the $44 bucks. Boots feel a little thin and will have to be careful I think with them but other than that I think they will work fine. If it falls below 70 I'll have on the big waders anyway...I'm cold natured in a BAD way!

Yep, Hodgman's..I don' know why I called them magellans. The boots do seem pretty thin, and I'm the same way about the cold... I don't know about the solid green...I may dust them up with some flat dark brown spray paint

Bobo...I'll be gellin' grin They do need something in there too.

Well you prolly called them magellan's cuz that seems all what the cheaper priced stuff is at Academy grin

I won't wear these but probably early teal and maybe (big maybe) first two weeks of big duck season...then I'll be in the big waders. I know how I am....if it is 70 I normally have a jacket/sweatshirt on wink

I too thought about dusting them up with some paint too....but I figure when I have these on there will still be a lot of green out or I'll be in a layout so no big deal????
