I am getting a new bow this month. I am debating between the mathews Z7 or the hoyt maxxis 31. I have shot the maxxis 31 and it is amazing and i am leaning towards that bow. i know it comes down to personal preferance but how does the mathews feel? anyone who has shot both wich one do you prefer?
any help would be great thanks!

Before you decide shoot many brands. I would shoot Elite, Mathews, Hoyt, Bowtech, Quest, Strothers. And then decide bro. Keep your mind open to anything and let the bow pick you.

You cant ask that question to a person that bought a mathews because they thought the mathews was better.
Also some people are brand snobs and only look at one brand.
I recently went bow shopping and came out with a Bowtech. I had a mathews before. This time around it felt best and was most fitted for the style of hunting I was going to do.
I would shoot the top 3 or 4 brands and go from there.

Shooting a Mathews doesn't make a person a brand snob. Is there a problem shooting an ultra quiet and fast bow with a very smooth draw?

Sorry. I just get kind of mad when people say that people only shoot Mathews because of the brand. I shoot it because of the brand because the brand makes amazing bows. The people that say that would probably take the Z7 over there own bow in a second.

People only shoot Mathews because its the only bow you can find in stock. There are four shops within quick driving distance to my place all of them have all of the mathews bows and maybe a bowtech no others (but of course they can order you a $800 bow without being able to touch it. Market matched the demand then took over the market. In DFW your main choice is a Mathews z7 or monster. If any shops stocked PSE's or hoyt something might change. I'm very curious to see what CCR does to DFW area shooters and their choice in bows are they are not a Mathews dealer.

You really need to shoot the bows to feel the difference. I didn't like the Mathews shock compared to the new Bowtech Destroyer (no comparison)... I haven't shot the Hoyt, so I can't help you there at all.. I think before I spent that kind of money I'd try some others first. You might just love the Mathews better, it's all about choice.

Probably not. The Z7 is much louder than my older Mathews model.

OK, I have always been a Mathews "homer". The Z7 I got last year was my second Mathews bow. I did not even consider anything else when I bought the Z7. Mathews came out with it, I went to my bow shop and shot it, and I thought I HAD to have it.

I bought it at the end of deer season last year and went on one hunt during extended spike / does season in January and shot a doe. Very nice bow.

Well, my 21 year old son was in the market for a new bow and he shot the Hoyt Maxxis and that is the bow he bought. Well, to make a long story short, I shot his bow (which fits me as good as my Z7) and I have to say that in my opinion the Maxxis was lighter, smoother, and quieter than my Z7. I loved it.

Now, I am NOT going to trade in my Z7 and get the Maxxis because my Z7 is definitely a great bow and I can definitely very effectively hunt Whitetail with it, but the Maxxis is one darn nice bow that in my opinion is a SLIGHTLY better bow than the Z7, but not enough to make me go out and discard my Mathews.

Hope that was somewhat helpful.

Both are great bows. I was down to the Maxxis and Z7 myself. Went with the Z7. Can't go wrong with either one.

I know Bear bows are heavily advertised but do they really stand up to all the hype? I too am looking to buy my first bow and their ready to hunt packages are appealing...

I shoot a martin bow and I think its pretty good. I dont have 1000$ to spend on something I dont use a whole lot and I can shoot pretty good groups at 30 yds.

Mathews Z7 here, just sold a DXT (probably shouldn't have) and these are great bows. I'm kind of snob though, been shooting Mathews since the early 90's.

Well I`m no snob (LOL!) and I shoot a Mathews Z7 here in South Dakota too. Super fast, quiet, no shock or noise, very forgiving bow thats crazy accurate. Whats not to like! Shoots 40 yard groups like you were at 20 yds. Cant wait till bow season starts here in Sept. Will be going after mule deer or a big Dakota whitetail this year with a bow.

I have been surfing some of the forums tho and I am hearing that a small % of folks are saying that the Z7 is not as quiet as the Bowtech or Hoyt top end bows....would like to know if these folks have actually tested this (with audio equipment of course) or were going by their ears for sounds on those statements. There`s opinions and assumptions and then there is actual research. Be careful to believe in the opinions you hear. Lots of em out there.

The other thing to consider Whitetail Man is that some folks on these forums like to compare dual cam bows to single cam bows. Thats comparing apples to oranges. If you want to compare any bows compare the ones that are similiar (e.g. Mathews Monster to a Bowtech Destroyer - both are dual cam bows, etc.)

Whitetail Man.....its totally up to you and which bow fits you well. Like bjankowski said let the bow choose you. Its your money so spend it wisely and get the bow that feels right to you. You can`t go wrong with any of those choices.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one, they are both awesome bows that will perform as well or better that you can shoot. Just get the one you like the best.

I had this same dilemma a year ago, I shot tons of bows over a 3 to 4 month period. It is about how the bow feels to you, but in my case I was experiencing great feel from a few different ones. I ended up buying the Reezen, and have loved the bow. I would only shoot Hoyt, Bowtech, Mathews. You can't go wrong with any of their products. Good luck! Shoot straight.

Im not one side on Mathews or BowTech I sell them both, but what i can tell you is if you are shooting a Z7 and its load its because someone didn't set everything up completely right. I've sold over 25 of them and everyone has its own little sweet spots.
The destroyer is excellent also if you like speed and not much valley in your full draw area but shoots very fast and straight. I got in 2 Z7 75# draw weight bows today and sold one already after set up at 72#'s 29" it chronographed at 309 thats awesome for a dual cam bow.
We have both instock and you can shoot both if you are in the area.
