We spent the weekend on the island I followed a couple of recommended places that I saw here ....
Here is my report
Thursday night we visited Shrimp and stuff. The first impression was that it had to be pretty good because of the line of people out the door. My wife ordered a catfish and shrimp special that happend to be on the nightly special. She really liked the fish and the shrimp were ok but nothing special. Our two small kids had the popcorn shrimp plate and fried fish plate. They both seemed to like them as well but you could tell that the shrimp was right out of the box and the fish had a different look and taste so I have no idea what kind it was. I had a shrimp and oyster combo and had them throw on a fried softshell crab on the side. Once again the shrimp seemed right out of box, oyster were over cooked and little did I know that i paid almost $8 for the softshell crab!!!!! We dropped $46 there and I would give it maybe at most a 3.5-4 on a 10 point scale.
Saturday afternoon we stopped at the Cajun Greek and man I was truely impressed. Kids both had popcorn shrimp that had more on them then most adult plates I have seen. My wife had a shrimp and fish combo plate and she was very impressed with the shrimp but the mustard coating on the fish kind of covered the fish to much. I had a shrimp and oyster po'boy and I will say it was one the best I have ever had. Shrimp were plentiful and tender and the oysters were perfectly cook. There were enough of both that I had to eat some of them before starting on the sandwich. On a scale of 10 I would give them an 7.5-8 with the drawback being the mustard fish and weak onion rings. Here I spent $43 and feel like it was WAY better quality and quantity of product and I would not pass up another chance to visit the CAJUN GREEK but would surely pass on the Shrimp and Stuff.
Hope this helps some of you if and when you head that direction. I really wanted to hit a couple of more but time had us locked up.

We got back yesterday as well..
Fishermans Warf on Wednesday-
I had the fried Shrimp, Oysters, Catfish, and Crab balls, oh yeah, Shiner on draft. Overall a good meal, what I expect from the Warf.
Rain Forset Cafe Thursday for the boy-
Had the steak with coconut shrimp, and shrimp scampi, another couple of Shiners, SADLY the best overall meal of the trip...
Friday at Gaidos-
Shrimp Martini for appi, Fried Seafood Platter II consisting of Fried Shrimp, Fried Scallops, Crab Balls, and Catfish, few Shiners, then pecan pie for dessert.
Appetizer and desert at Gaido's was off the chain, rest of the food was dissapointing, this being the most expensive of the three.

We are going to Houston for the 4th of July weekend and are taking a day trip to Galveston just to eat at Gaido's. I never pass within a 100 miles of Galveston without eating there. The Snapper Michael is my favorite all time meal that doesn't include a steak!

Gaido's hasn't been good in a long time, least not to me. I think it's among the most overrated and overpriced restaurants there is.

We made the mistake of going to Landry's- it was overpriced and the food wasn't that good. Not to mention that they had our waiter covering half the stinkin restaurant and he was NEVER at our table...

We ate at Mario's and the pizza was pretty good. Shiner on draft at $2.50, so cold there were tiny ice crystals...

Tortugas, at 61st & Seawall, was AWESOME. I had the chicken with shrimp, avocado, and mushroom. Wife had cheese enchiladas, that and 2 Miller Lites was less than $30 with a good tip...

My wife wanted to go to Tortugas as we stayed right behind it but time was not on our side. Glad to here again what I had heard before about Gaido's in that its glory days are behind it now.

Wow Gaidos was where we would always go for my birthday when I was a kid. Looked forward to eating there every year. Hate to hear it's gone down.

hard to find consistent food in Galveston. one time its great next time you swear them off. try San Leon next time you come through - my best friends place at April Fool Pt. Topwater Grill.

Benos was an awesome place. Stone crab claws with new potoes and corn. I hope they rebuilt. I am planning a trip down in a couple of months.
