I'm sure most of you have seen "The Bucks of Tecomate" hunting show on Versus channel. David Morris is the host of the show and his ranch is the "El Kazador Ranch" way down in south tx. Well, the reason i brought this up is because his ranch is for sale on the "Meek Ranch Sales" website, and if you read all of the information about the ranch is states that all of the 2941 acres is surrounded by a game proof high fence. Maybe I've "missrememberd", but I could have sworn that on several occasions he mentioned his ranch was a low fence place. On one show last season he was hunting a buck that he thought could possibly be the new state record, turns out he didn't get the buck because it had gotten injured and dropped about 40pts on its rack. If he had killed the buck and it scored more than the Texas state record it wouldn't have counted anyway since it was behind high fence. I'm not nocking the guy for hunting behind high fence, it just seems strange that he says on his show that he hunted low fence when he really had a high fence. If i'm wrong then I apologize for this rant.

I think he said on the shows in the past that it is HF on two sides and LF on two sides so it would let a buck qualify for B&C book.

Didn't he get in trouble with Medicare fraud?

I hadn't heard anything about the Medicare fraud, but I thought it was kinda weird he is selling his ranch. Seems like he has a good thing going down there.

Not David Morris but Gary Schwartz did according to the emails floating around a while back.

Gary Schwarz (David's partner in the original operation) is the one that got in trouble for Medicare fraud. He is a dentist.....or rather, WAS a dentist.

fenced on three sided, left one side open so the deer could make BC. I believe the Tecomate is all high fenced.

Thats not the complete ranch, it's missing a lil over 2,000 acres (it's a total of around 5,000 acres). I watched the bucks of tecomate all day yesterday and he said multiple times that his deer are low-fence free-range. Kinda depressing to see that it's actually highfenced along it perimeter.

How does this scenario work out? You have a ranch that is HF on three sides so it counts as low fence with B&C. BUT, you own through a company the ranch that borders the low fence side and of course, that ranch is HF on three sides. You actually have one giant ranch that is HF but the tracts are owned separate they appear. Does B&C count that?? Do they go an research it?

Interesting question. Never thought about that.
How about this scenario:
What if the U.S. finishes building the wall on the Mexican border and the Canadians start flowing into the country illegally and we have to build a Northern fence? Would all of the U.S. be considered high fence? bolt

you just have to have at least a mile of low fence, alot of ranches do it along a river or something with steep banks, no animal is gonna cross it but tecnically your within the law.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Man I hate hearing that!

That was my favorite show, and they always had some awesome bucks and being familiar with that terrain, it would put you right there in the middle of the action like you were actually there.

Just goes to show even a couple good ole boys can step over the line, and probably didn't really have to is what makes it so sad!

At the prices they charge for hunting these days that probably means booking a couple of extra hunts during the rut!

Davids is HF only on 2 sides and he has a very large ranch neighbor on 2 sides and Gary sold part of his ranch a few years back I think to IRS problems...leaving him with part of a totally HF ranch.

Before a buck makes the book, you can bet B&C will be sure it was taken in what they consider "fair chase". There may be loopholes, but B&C will do everything they can to negate that.

Sounds like maybe they cross fenced the place with another HF and put the HF chunk on the market so his dentist partner could cash out to pay his lawyers. Maybe Morris keeps the other chunk that's still 3 sided..... Not sure at all, but if it is carved up, that's a possible approach.

El Cazador Ranch is in Jim Hogg county and is 2941 acres and El Tecomate is in Starr county and was 5500 acres orginally.

So Cazador is HF and Tecomate is LF?

Most of those shows are just tax shelters and give folks a way to expense some really expensive hunts. At least I know of one where that is the case.
