I need to set up a feed station. The problem is rocky ground. can t-post be set into concrete & buckets for a semi permant fence? cattle are out there as well as deer and hogs. has anyone ever tried this?

It certainly depends on the location but you can usually move the t-post around and find a slot. Pretty slow work because you may have to make several attempts. If you are in an area with a small amount of top soil over a layer of flat rock, that is where we have to use crowbars. drills, etc. For a feeder, I think I would look for another location. Especially in this 100+ degree heat.

You might try taking the fin off the t-post and see if you can drive it in.

I used hog panels and linked them together to make a circle. Drove 4 t posts and it is as steady as it needs to be. No problems. No corners so there is actually more room. Hoola hoop is what we call it.

It can be done if the pen is large enough. Just be sure you offset the posts in the buckets so that the bucket can be placed inside the enclosure. There's no guarantee, though, that cattle and/or large hogs won't move the pen around a little...but it will be a heck of a feat if they do.

gotta go with aeb... i hang my hat back around the fredricksburg area we got rocks and with a good t post driver and knocking the grabber off it can be pounded through most ground and they hold better than the concrete bucket and cheaper.

Unless it's just SOLID rock here's a tip that works for me...
I get a piece of rebar about 2 ft long and hammer it into the ground, if it goes a couple of inches and hit rock I move over about 4" and try again. When you find the "sweet spot" drive your T-post there.

Had no luck weighting it like you are talking. No cattle, but the hogs made short work of it. Like's been said, hog panels overlapped about a foot joined together in a circle will pretty much stand on its own. I join 8 panels with wire rope clips, which hold a lot firmer than tie wire. Then I use an 18v hammer drill in rocky areas and drive rebar posts into holes in the rock. Snug fit so you have to drive em in and it will hold solid. Only needs one per panel, so you're only talking 8 holes for my pens. Hammer drill x 8 seems a lot easier then mixing concrete in buckets to me too.

I bought interlinking goat panels from Lometa Gate and panels. They are 42" tall X 10 ft long @ $35 each. They build them on the spot and will last a life time. I do not have a pic, my best description is 3" or 4" sq hog panels welded to 1" tubing frame with two pins on one end and two box on the other end to link them togather. You can put your pen up in 10 minutes, move it anytime you'd like and feed deer and turkey ONLY. I have ten panel for mine. It's pricey but you are done! I'll take and post a pic my next trip out.

If you can weld, or have a buddy that can weld, you can make those for about 20-25 bucks per 16ft section with some square tubing and hog panels. It may be more, been a while since I've bought any fence panels.
